The incident happened during an interactive portion of a presentation about a student-run nonprofit that uses soccer to build community among refugee children in the Washington region, according to the letter. The presenter had students use Kahoot, an online game that allows people to build their own quizzes, to answer questions.
Students responded by using their cellphones, and their answers were projected on large screens. But the projections were quickly turned off when an administrator saw that two of the students usernames included swastikas. Several other usernames expressed racist views of Asians and Native Americans, according to the letter.
I am disappointed, dismayed, and deeply sorry that such an incident could take place at our School, Bryan Garman, the head of the school, wrote in the letter to Sidwell families. Racism and anti-Semitism will not be tolerated in this community.

(17,304 posts)I am certain the administration is chagrined, appalled and every other synonym in the thesaurus. I wouldn't be surprised if the students are expelled or if they are required to atone for what they did.
Sidwell Friends is the school of choice for many pols around DC. I suppose some students come from families that espouse these intolerent views at home.

(959 posts)this is often a kind of raid that appears on 4 chan and other such message boards.
All that is needed to access a Kahoot quiz is the quiz ID and a password provided by the instructor.
So one kid just snaps a photo of the overhead screen that has the ID and passcode, posts it online and invites the web to raid the quiz. you sign into the page with the ID and passcode and enter the name you want to use, and this is where the raiders will use profane names and type in symbols like swasticas. As the quiz continues, scores with the corresponding usernames appear on the overhead.
All it takes is one child, who will never be found, to post the ID info of the quiz and anonymous people from all over the world will raid it for entertainment.
I browsed 4 chan for years in my assholish youth and this is a lot more common than you would believe. My big gripe is how easy Kahoot makes it for this to happen and there has been hardly any effort on their part to mitigate this.
ETA: just type Kahoot raid in youtube and you can find out how easy and common this is.
