Like 'cold calling' maybe? Nothing leading up to it. Just a guess. applegrove Mar 2019 #2

Apparently a warm open has a warm up act so there is that.

I did not even laugh, much less chuckle. How many years has it been since SNL was, you know, actually funny? The cold opening is the only thing worth watching and that is no longer funny anymore. The only regular with actual talent on that show is Kate McKinnon.

I thought last week was start-to-finish better than any recent episode I could remember. This week is certainly not off to a good start.

sometimes they don't make me laugh as much. For instance I find it hard to laugh at fox news characters. Don't know their work and I think they are evil. But I usually feel the power of satire and that brings glee. Don't follow R. KELLY but I think it might work if you were a follower of his. Put him rightfully in his place. We all love the Trump cold opens because we live all the characters everyday and love to see all of Hollywood taking part in taking him down. They are like a group event.

Basically since I was 6 and too young to get the jokes. SNL is like a sports team. Some years the team is more talented than others.

IMO SNL is funny every season in some way but not always every sketch. That’s pretty much how it’s been through the entire run. People tend to romanticize the early years. I rewatched some of the shows from the first few years recently and theres a lot of brilliance there, but there’s also some real tomato cans. Truly awful sketches even allowing for the fact that it was a different time.
This particular cast is one of the most talented I’ve seen in a few years. Humor is highly subjective anyway, but I have to agree with you on this particular episode which is not strong. I don’t think sketch comedy is Idris Elba’s bag TBH.

I'm holding out for Weekend Update in the hope that the crap writing on the rest of the show hasn't infected Michael Che and Colin Yost.

But it sure has been a stinker so far.

I agree it’s not much of an episode but that one made me squeal. Kate McKinnon can do anything.

A nice rebuttal to some of the nonsense we’ve all been subjected to regarding several high profile films released last year.
