(113,731 posts)On September 25, 1921, the National Woman's Party announced its plans to campaign for an amendment to the U.S. Constitution to guarantee women equal rights with men. The text of the proposed amendment read:
Section 1. No political, civil, or legal disabilities or inequalities on account of sex or on account of marriage, unless applying equally to both sexes, shall exist within the United States or any territory subject to the jurisdiction thereof.
Section 2. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.[11]
Appreciate the history. Makes it even more poignant and Overdue! May it become our law.

(94,887 posts)The Congressional passage of the ERA included a deadline (once extended), which passed without the requisite number of States. Additionally, Nebraska, Tennessee, Idaho, and Kentucky rescinded their approval.

It's not clear that "un-ratification" is legal, but those few states might be unlikely to ratify a new E.R.A.
It'll take a few years for the legality of un-ratification to make it to the SC. Hopefully, no "Dem" justices retire or die before the "Rep" president and senate are gone.

(34,136 posts)that it has never passed I am not surprised at all. Not one bit. If it gets passed it will likely be chipped away at like our abortion rights, birth control access in places and just about every advance we have ever made or tried to make.
Once again, who are the criminals in this country and why do they get away with running things? Expect things to get really hard as we are making progress. Look how many women reporters there are now, how many in positions of power and in our government. I doubt I live to see this happen, the backlash is getting pretty big, but hopefully you younger women will.
