COLUMBUS, Ohio — A longtime officer with the Columbus Police Department could face life in prison after being accused of falsely arresting women and then demanding they perform sex acts before being released, authorities say.

Federal agents arrested Andrew K. Mitchell, 55, of Sunbury, Ohio, on Monday morning, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of Ohio.

Snip--Columbus Police have concluded their internal investigation into the 2018 arrest of Stormy Daniels at a Columbus strip club, which the department calls “improper” but not pre-planned or politically motivated.

Daniels was arrested by Vice Unit officers during her appearance at the strip club Sirens strip club on July 11, 2018. Along with two other women, Daniels was charged with violating Ohio’s “Community Defense Act,” which prohibits “nude or semi-nude” dancers from touching patrons.

According to a press release Friday, the Internal Affairs investigation was centered around three allegations: that Daniels’ arrest was “pre-planned” ahead of her appearance; that Daniels’ arrest was planned “for political motivation or reason”; and that Daniels’ arrest was improper."

Snip--According to police, the internal investigation included 19 interviews, the review of 11,000 emails and over 30 hours of video. Daniels declined to participate in the investigation.

Mitchell’s lawyer, Mark Collins, tells the Columbus Dispatch that Mitchell denies all of the allegations.

According to 10tv.com, Mitchell also is under investigation for a police-involved fatal shooting during a prostitution sting on Aug. 23, 2018. Mitchell shot Donna Castleberry, who is accused of pulling a knife and stabbing Mitchell in the hand.

Veteran officer Andrew Mitchell shot 23-year-old Donna Castleberry on Aug. 23 after she stabbed him in the hand while sitting in an unmarked police car, according to police.

Castleberry faced a single misdemeanor soliciting charge from a July 25 arrest not far from where she died. She offered to have sex with an undercover police officer for $50. Her family says Castleberry had struggled with drugs and was likely working the streets as a prostitute. She left behind two young daughters. ...

In the case of Castleberry’s death, the woman who called 911 and gave Mitchell her shirt to wrap around his bleeding hand said she ran outside after her boyfriend heard Castleberry cry for help, saying Mitchell was going to kidnap her.

Kaitlin Patton then heard several shots, and as she arrived at the car, saw Mitchell pushing Castleberry’s folded-over body into the rear seat as if to hide it. Catching sight of her, Mitchell told her he was a police officer, that he’d been stabbed, and to call 911, Patton, 27, said Monday.

“I think that he was about to jump back in the car and take off,” Patton told The Associated Press. A coroner’s report shows Castleberry was shot three times.
