Ret. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff tweets a response about Trump's recent threats.

GEN(R) Marty Dempsey

@Martin_Dempsey

Our military reflects, represents, serves, and defends their fellow citizens. They are compassionate or lethal depending on what we ask of them. They are tough in protecting America from external threats. They serve a democratic system never an individual. #Leadership

Tried googling it but found nothing.

What I fear from the military, however, is what I suspect is a very large contingent of armed and trained - and crazy - white supremacists and white nationalists who view trump's statements as calls to arm and who will ignore General Dempsey's comment in support of what they view is a more noble objective.

Military, by and large, would follow orders from the CIC - period - the end. Not one Guardsman refused to shoot unarmed college students at Kent State - not one - so don't tell me about the moral military - they are not.

over a 243 year history. That's reasonable. The General is being accurate, not just optimistic. Any organization will have a minority of individuals that act counter to the purpose of that organization, it neither minimizes the horror of that day nor does it paint all members with the blood of the victims either. Plus, you don't have to obey an unlawful order. tRump ordering the military to use violence against the American populace would be an unlawful order, CIC or not. I served, did you? The vast majority mean the oath we swear.

The Guardsmen were following their chain of command.

Right here is the chain of command not kowtowing to Trump.

Get into an armed confict with American citizens?
Even if you win we lose.

Remember the resistance of WWII.
