I want to apologize for lashing out at fellow DUers a lot recently

Especially in the past few days. I know I compared the video to child pornography and I'm not going to apologize for that comparison, but the full anger of that comment is directed at people who seek out the thing for giggles and entertainment or people who watch it and can say "I watched it..." and the next thing not be absolute horror.

It's just on top of seeing my personal values, political beliefs, and my philosophy which has developed over years and is still developing get turned into ad hominem attacks, smears, and conspiracy theories by the 'other side of the aisle', by this alt-right, by the very administration which is supposed to represent all Americans; it's boiling over and I know I am getting angry at people, the wrong people.

And the other thing is, Muslims aren't just some abstract thing to me, as silly and obvious as that sounds. What I am saying is, it's personal. I've practically adopted a young woman from Somalia, she's my protege. And I've loved a Muslim woman a long time ago, almost married her, and she still holds the biggest place in my heart, I don't think I will ever be truly romantically involved with anyone else ever again and it's been almost a decade since we were last together. They are two of the most beautiful, sweetest, smartest, and strongest women in my life... and then to see their religion, them, get called 'other', called 'invasive'. It's bad enough my political beliefs and philosophical values be used as fodder for gaslighting and psychological manipulation, now it's done to my love and my heart?

All this combined, it's making me do and say vile and terrible things. I'm truly sorry about that and I shouldn't be directing that to a community I've been a member of since 2004.

I was not part of who you were lashing out at, but I just wanted to say thank you for this graceful apology.

Be good to yourself..........And all this will pass.

i saw it before the news broke on cnn. and before any of the links were removed... it is one of the worst videos i've ever seen.

at first, i thought people need to see what real hatred is, but i believe i'm wrong now, you can achieve the same by words/description.

this can seriously toy with your mental well being. i have not felt this since seeing multiple people leap to their death when 911 was happening.

social media is going to make things worse, this is going to be the SOP of future nutcases, streaming live.

i wish i can unseen the video

Some of us have different ways of coping with horror. That doesn't mean we don't all agree it is horrible. I am a member of the look it in the eye gang myself, but I know that doesn't work for everybody. Whatever we all wake up and have to go to work the next morning, all the same.

I feel the same.

I felt the same when people were sharing the beheading videos years back.

I never wanted to see that video either, but a major network online played part of it just showing the gun in the car part.

I take this personally as you do. Many of the victims were almost certainly moved to New Zealand under the IOM operations I led resettling refugees from Afghanistan in the 1980s although I didn't personally didn't meet any of them.

It is possible that I met some of the Vietnamese that Trump is trying to repatriate to Vietnam against the treaty we signed and international law.

I have family members that are TPS holders and in-laws that are Muslims.

We cannot allow our spirits to sag. Be resilient.

We must work to defeat every Republican in 2020 and if Trump is re-elected then we must start making preparations to take at risk migrants into our homes a la Anne Frank.

Contact your local mosque, stop by and share your compassion with them one on one.
