"Sex & gender are spectrums" - what is that supposed to mean? I have never heard that phrase.

Very very brief history
>>Garland died in London, June 22, 1969.
>>Stonewall Uprising/Riot-NYC June 28-July1, 1969. Fun facts, Trans Gender Women, Butch Lesbians, Effeminate Men, Hookers, Homeless Youth and Drag Queens kicked the NYPD asses out. Police had gotten used to raiding & arresting patrons of Gay Bars
>>Gilbert Baker, SF 1978, created, with others for the GayFreedomDay Parade.
So while Garlands death in London, and the previous decades long history of police brutality & arrests, combined are a starting point for LGTBQ+ political &social movements, it was a factor leading to the next decade of increasing activities.
And there is no way I can succiently explain the Rainbow Flags' impact on the AIDs Quilts.

(10,303 posts)Example: biologically I'm male, but my brain isn't fully "male". A lot of the time it thinks "female" so I've been confused about my gender. Add to that with society reinforcing its mixed signals by addressing me as female when they hear me on the phone and until recently that was nearly every day (as I used to work in a call centre). So some time ago I've said F-it and just go with the notion that I'm a human and for me a specific gender isn't so important anymore in my identity. I'm both male and female in my head, but I'm in a male body... which sometimes drives me nuts. I guess the term "gender fluid" comes to mind.

(88 posts)By "sex" I think he meant "sexual identity" and just wrote "sex" for short. And yes, sexual identity is a spectrum.
Gender is not. There are only 4: male, female, hermaphrodite, and eunuch.
It should have read "Sexual identity is a spectrum" and it would have been fine and avoided that nit.
ProfessorPlum
(11,279 posts)who died and made anyone the arbiter of that? I would argue that there is indeed a spectrum from male to female, including all the different types of hermaphrodism.
CTAtheist
(88 posts)This is simple biology.
1: no penises or vaginas
2: only penises, no vaginas
3: only vaginas, no penises
4: both penises and vaginas
There are only 4 genders.
Sexual identity, however, is a spectrum. Totally agree there.
ProfessorPlum
(11,279 posts)you ought to read up on hermaphrodism sometime, and all the forms it can take. You'd be amazed.
CTAtheist
(88 posts)And it's still a mix of male and female.
"True hermaphroditism, clinically known as ovotesticular disorder of sex development, is a medical term for an intersex condition in which an individual is born with ovarian and testicular tissue. More commonly one or both gonads is an ovotestis containing both types of tissue."
10% male, 90% female is exactly the same as 90% female, 10% male. Your gender is 'hermaphrodite'. Period.
This has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with your sexual identity, which is completely unique for each person.
ProfessorPlum
(11,279 posts)what you are describing is a spectrum.

Gender is not. It's literally your genitalia.
