New York state prosecutors and environmental authorities say they've arrested a 38-year-old man who allegedly kept live sharks in an above-ground pool in his basement and attempted to sell them online.
Joshua Seguine allegedly first came to the attention of New York Department of Environmental Conservation in 2017, when he allegedly was found in possession of five undersized sharks in the back of his truck. Seguine allegedly admitted that he intended to sell them and said he had additional live sharks at his home, according to a press release from the New York Attorney General's office.

Authorities discovered Seguine was allegedly operating an online business and had allegedly offered sharks for sale as recently as June 29, 2017 on the website MonsterFishKeepers.com, the release said. Environmental authorities executed a search warrant the next month at the home south of Albany and allegedly discovered an 18-foot above ground pool with seven live sharks, later identified by biologists as sandbar sharks. CBS New York reported in 2017 the young sandbar sharks were between 2 and 4 feet long. The protected species, which can grow up to 6-8 feet, are illegal to own in the state without a special license, the statement said. The cost to legally acquire a sandbar shark is about $11,500, prosecutors say.
Investigators also found two dead leopard sharks, one dead hammerhead shark, and the snout of a smalltooth sawfish, an endangered species, prosecutors say. The sandbar sharks were taken in by a local aquarium.

(2,768 posts)I'm heading for the train station and I see something in a doorway that I thought was a big pale orange tabby. Now, I know you aren't supposed to go messing around with stray cats, but a cat that fat probably had an owner. It was sheltering in the doorway like it knew where it wanted to be and there was a bodega two doors down.
Anyway, I'm a sucker for fat cats and made the decision to give it a skritch or two behind the ears and maybe a side belly pat and continue on with the morning. As I got closer the cat sort of waddled into the shadowy corner of the doorway and tucked itself in. As I got close enough to really start making it out I'm realizing this guy is isn't quite as orange as I thought he was. In-fact. it was sort of yellowish and the fur didn't look quite right.
Once I got close enough to really start making it out, my eyesight isn't all that great, I knew it wasn't a cat. So I think, "maybe it'd a small hairless dog or something?" I hoped to hell it wasn't some kind of freaky rat because I wasn't ready for Teenage Mutant Ninja Rats. Still, I got close enough to see what it was. It walked into the light a little bit and turned out to be a freaking Armadillo. How it got on the street I will never know, but I get the feeling is some idiot kept it as a pet and then decided to just dump it.
People are insane everywhere.

(1,036 posts)Not sure where you are, or where this happened, but here in Texas those damn things are everywhere. All one needs to do is look for them ...
Armadillos are not generally an issue, they pretty much keep to themselves and just kind of mope about ... they do not see to well and sometimes look and act lost as hell.
