(28,086 posts)Donald Trump likes to get his way, and hes not above cutting off a sick infants health coverage to make it happen.
The story begins after the death of Trumps father, Fred Sr., in 1999. As David Cay Johnston explains in his book The Making of Donald Trump, Fred Sr. had written a will after the death of his oldest son, Fred Jr., known as Freddy, in 1981. The will left the majority of Fred Sr.s wealth to Donald and his surviving siblings. Freddys family was largely cut out.
When Fred Sr. died, Freddys children sued, claiming that the will had been procured by fraud and undue influence by Donald and the other surviving siblings, according to Johnston.
Johnston writes that medical insurance had consistently been provided to the family through Fred Sr.s company. This coverage was crucial for Freddys grandson (Donalds grandnephew), who suffered from seizures and later developed cerebral palsy. So crucial, in fact, that a letter sent from a Trump lawyer to the insurer after the patriarchs death in 1999 said that all costs for the sick childs care should be covered, regardless of caps on the plan or medical necessity, according to Johnston. That didnt last long.
A week after the lawsuit was filed in court, Freddys son (Donalds nephew) received a letter informing him that the health insurance would be discontinued, meaning his ill son would be left without coverage. Donald openly admitted to the New York Daily News that he and his siblings took this action out of revenge.
Why should we give him medical coverage? Trump said, adding, They sued my father, essentially. Im not thrilled when someone sues my father.

(28,086 posts)There are federal mandates school districts have to fulfill for educating Special Ed students. Many school districts are struggling to fund those mandates, the federal money needs to be increased, not descreased. Without the federal money school districts will have to put referendums out to the voters or cut other programs.
The cruelty of these people never stops.

(82,849 posts)DeVos, in addition to carrying out her own agenda, knows that her turd of a boss agrees with her. Trump knows he can divert attention at will, and this cruel cut will be quickly forgotten. Gotta pay for those tax cuts somehow, and that Special Olympics money is almost 16 minutes of the annual defense budget. 16 minutes!

(7,538 posts)My mission for the past three years as the creator of the architectural humor blog McMansion Hell has been to unpack what makes mansions like DeVoss so terrible, from both an architectural and social standpoint. Its bad enough that we have a president who oversaw a massive redistribution of wealth toward the already wealthy through tax breaks. Whats worse is that obscenely wealthy people like him waste all their money building pseudo-castles and other eclectic tragedies, all while wagging their finger at the rest of us telling us to eat cake.
Trump official and fellow rich person DeVos just rolled back Obama administration loan forgiveness rules for students defrauded by for-profit colleges. Its unsurprising that she doesnt want to forgive the student loan debts of those defrauded by for-profit colleges considering that she got her net worth of more than $1 billion from her husbands company, the multilevel marketing giant Amway, which is often described as a cult. Meanwhile, her brother Erik Prince owns the Blackwater firm, which essentially sells mercenaries. As we can see, we are not dealing with nice people.

(11,114 posts)Special Olympics is chump change in the federal budget. There is no way in Hell the Congress will zero-out Special Olympics. I see no reason for the Trump administration to submit a budget that zeros Special Olympics other than to piss off people.
Why poke people in the eye for no purpose?
