The GuardianAlex Krautmann on Monday tweeted a photo of his bagels and called the vertical slices the St Louis secret. Krautmann said it creates more slices and more surface area for cream cheese. He said the few remaining slices make nice bagel chips with hummus.
It was a hit! he wrote.
However, Chuck Schumer, the Senate minority leader and a born-and-raised New Yorker, wasnt buying it.
He tweeted: On behalf of the New York Delegation: St Louis, fuhgeddaboudit.

(34,136 posts)It lets people have smaller servings and makes the bagel slices more "finger food" and easier to eat as a two-three bite snack.
Another benefit - the left overs can be toasted in the oven and made into bagel chips which are perfect for snacking later.
Damn - I haven't had a bagel in over a year. Now I want one really bad. Maybe next week - tomorrow I have my back operation and need to eat light today.

(26,060 posts)Choc chip bagels? That sounds thoroughly unappetizing. Did you get that in NY?

(26,060 posts)did some very weird things with bagels - strawberry, blueberry, jalepeno peppers - it went out of business in around 6 months.

(25,586 posts)here in Southern California. I have pretty much settled on the everything bagel (garbage bagels in my household) as my go-to choice.
Blueberry is weird? I thought they were pretty common.

(26,060 posts)in a bagel weird. I can't even eat cinnamon raisin and I love cinnamon. Most bagel places have plain, poppy, sesame, everything, whole wheat and bialys. That's about it. If everything bagels didn't have salt, I'd love them. I'm not a lover of salt.

A disgrace!! SAD!

(2,125 posts)Show a deep lack of appreciation for the bagel and its cultural traditions. And I can't even imagine a chocolate chip bagel. My dad used to make a mournful sigh when my mom ate cinnamon raisin bagels. They were already a bit beyond the pale. And don't get me started on blueberry blintzes!

(119 posts)St. Louis gave us so much from toasted raviolis, ice cream cones, etc. Maybe NY isn't ready for great new ideas?

That's just no way to cut a bagel. Basically it's just regular bread right now.

And yes, Chicago hot dog snobbery is pretty fierce itself, and God help anyone who mentions the k-word when it comes to hot dog condiments.

(26,060 posts)The leftovers at the end of the day, slightly stale, are often sliced like that in the picture, baked again so they get hard and then used as crackers (called bagel chips). What I'm seeing in that picture would get laughed out of any NYers home or office.

(15,805 posts)thicker than those pictured. They are easier to eat and the ratio of cream cheese to bagel is more evenly distributed. It's hard to find unsliced bagels unless you make a special order at a bakery
PoindexterOglethorpe
(25,853 posts)sliced like bread with a sweet cream cheese, like honey walnut.
And as someone else has pointed out, having the bagels bread sliced is a great way to bring them into an office, because even an entire half bagel might be more than someone wants to eat.
Codeine
(25,586 posts)is the thick, chewy texture, and slicing it like this seems a guaranteed way to mess that up. Im not looking for a better ratio of cream cheese to bagel because a bagel is about the bagel, not how much cream cheese you can ram down your gullet.
The good news is that I have some everything bagels from our local bagel shop at home and Im ready to devour one after work. This whole topic made me ravenous!
