Why Akin matters: Obama now leads Romney in Missouri

Think Mitt Romney is a sure-fire winner in Missouri this November? Think again.

At least that’s the takeaway from the new survey, released Friday, by Republican-leaning Rasmussen Reports.

President Barack Obama leads 47-46, wiping out Romney’s previous six-point lead.

Yes, I know, it’s one poll, completely at odds with months of other polls. Obama sure hasn’t been popular for a long time in this state. Then again, this survey ought to at least light a little spark under Obama-believers in Missouri.

And why is this happening?

Thank you, Todd Akin.

The U.S. representative’s inane comments on abortion, which have attracted national attention, seem to have stirred the base of Democratic and independent voters in Missouri.

sewed up the election for Obama and the Dems. The RapeubliCONs gave away their game, and who they are concerned about. Once we do our work, and get the message out to everyone we see, and get it our multiple times, then people will realize that they do not want Willard and his ward. Mr. Romulan will not do to the US, what he did to so many other companies in the US!

I'd prefer to see a PPP or a St. Louis Po Dispatch or KC Star poll rather than Rat-mussen or Gallup. I wouldn't be surprised if those polls were released to scare Akin into sumbitting to the party PTB. Lets see if these numbers show elsewhere and hold. IRC President Obama was either tied or slightly ahead in Mo. through most of '08 (including the big rally under the arch) and lost the state handily. I'm not expecting any different result this year. I'm from Illinois, Missouri...Show Me!!

Obama lost by less than one percent. There wasn't a recount only because Obama had already won the presidency.

but Missouri wasn't really lost 'handily':

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_election_in_Missouri,_2008

======
. . . Missouri was won by Republican nominee John McCain by a 0.1% margin of victory. Prior to the election, most news organizations considered this state a toss-up, or a swing state. On election day, Missouri was the closest state in 2008, with some news organizations not calling the state until two weeks after the election. . . .

I think this will definitely be helpful. But, I don't think it will be the only reason the state goes blue.

Karl Rove wants Akin out of the race. Rove has a relationship with Rasmussen. They're playing games. Doubtful Obama devotes anything more than token resources to Missouri.

It'll be close but I do think that with the Akin developments Missouri will go some shade of purple. Actually, it's already purple-we have a few Dem reps, a Dem senator, a Dem governor, attorney general, secretary of state, etc.

Nixon will win reelection, Koster will win reelection. (Koster, for all his faults, actually helped the state turn a shade of purple. He was a respected Republican prosecutor in Cass Co who left his party, became a Dem, and then ran for state AG. Two of the best things Koster has done is uphold "Obamacare" and is constantly trying to build a case to sue harassing collections companies and bureaus. Missouri residents have been informed repeatedly that if they receive a harassing call of that nature they are supposed to report all info to the AG office. He wants them all out of business.)

I see Claire pulling this off and I see more votes going to Obama. The race was so close before and this time it's going to happen.
