City of Terre Haute removes yard signs showing Obama on a cross, in a coffin

City workers have removed two controversial political signs from the yard of a home on South 19 th Street in Terre Haute, officials confirmed Friday.

The signs, which were first put up this spring, showed images of President Barack Obama crucified on a cross and lying in a coffin, each with statements denouncing the president’s policies.

City attorney Chou-il Lee said the signs were removed because they violate city codes that forbid signs larger than two square feet in residential areas. He also said the city had first tried to notify the homeowner of the violation in early July.

Although some in the community had spoken out against the sign, Lee said it was the display’s size, not its content, that caused it to be taken down.

3. I agree with you

in 1990 I ran for US Congress from the left and put up campaign signs which the city of Tacoma took down. I won 9-0 in the WA Supreme Court. hile despise the content of the signs in the OP, the people have the right to display as far as I am concerned. Where do we draw the line? And I gaurantee you if they were just oversized signs for Romney, the city wouldn't have done squat!
