The Georgia house of representatives gave final approval on Friday to legislation outlawing abortions after a fetal heartbeat can be detected, sending the bill to Kemp. If enacted, it would be among the strictest abortion bans in the US.
Signing the toughest abortion law in the country was a campaign pledge of Kemps during his run for governor last year.
Georgia values life, he said in a statement on Friday. The legislatures bold action reaffirms our priorities and who we are as a state.
The measure was approved by just one vote more than the majority needed to pass out of the house: 92 votes from the 180-member chamber. Following the vote, law enforcement confronted several Democratic lawmakers and protesters speaking against the bill in the halls of the capitol, threatening to arrest people if a crowd didnt disperse and stop chanting shame.

(54,370 posts)It is also what happens when the top election official in a state runs for governor. He controls the very system he is trying to use to get into office. No wonder he "won." He is counting on the Catholic majority on the Supreme Court to back him up. Only the occasional pangs of conscience/humanity on the part of John Roberts can save Georgia's women from this barbaric measure. It could happen, but it's a risky thing to bet the farm on.

Every single mention of his name should have included the words under fire with a synopsis of what occured.
