❤️❤️ DU "Ignore Feature". ❤️❤️

Do you use the "Ignore Feature"

Who do you ignore?

One of my recent articles, ironically an invitation to civility, drew one of the most uncivil responses I have seen on DU (been here for years, lost password, couldn't get back on until I got a new iPhone/email)

So I Asked nicely for comment to be removed only to be told to ".........whatever right wing 💩hole....shilling for"

https://www.democraticunderground.com/128741459

Can you guess who will get ignored.

I have never been called a right winger in my entire life, until now. 😂😂😂😂😂😂

When we ignore, do the negative comments still show up for everyone else to see?

If yes, how are we protected from hateful trolls trashing our work?

If we ignore a troll, and their character slamming comments persist, we won't even know they are there, is this correct?

Anyone? Bueller?

One for "yelling" at me for asking a simple question to help me understand his position better, another for windy, inconsequential posts marked by lousy grammar and punctuation. The third, somewhat reluctantly, for I do "like" him, for relentless egotism.

When one ignores others, it seems their original posts are still visible. I just ignore them, too.

Ignorance can really be bliss. I enjoy my time here more for having taken action.

The poster indicated that he or she had been out of DU for a period, that would affect post count, especially during elections and other such events. I don't use post count as a sign of validation of the poster, instead I try to look at the content of the post and then go from there. But everyone has their own methods, yours is as good as any, IMO.

Same as kindergarten playground. Always a couple of rough players interrupting the joy of the group. They are the sad people, that's what I taught my kids. Sorry they are sad, be nice and if they are too rough avoid them.

Guess that applies everywhere today. So many emotionally immature, stunted people.

Sun Mar 31, 2019, 10:08 PM
Mar 2019

1) With the official Ignore, it just blocks out the offensive information that is out there. It's like Fox Network version of only hearing what is the agreeable point of view.

2) That said, contradicting myself, when somebody is obnoxious and insulting I have my own personal Ignore, wherein I just never look at any posts of theirs. I just skip past them. There is nothing to be discussed with them, nothing to learn, nothing just nothing.

3) Many years ago for the first time, when somebody was ugly I sent them a message asking them to put ME on Ignore and got a response of (their) SHOCK, like, how DARE I!1 But I seldom send personal messages, especially of that sort, and the annoying people usually don't respond well to the messages and KEEP REPLYING along the lines of one of the internet's original memes that whoever gets the last word WINS, and they just keep replying no matter their being told "DO NOT ANSWER THIS."

********I have been saying for YEARS that I am/acknowledge being an *ERRATIC* poster, on the high end posting some (a few?) well thought out and original items, but also on the low end posting some wacky/stupid/apparently-IRRITATING things. These bad posts of mine are usually off the wall for whatever reason, whimsical, and like "huh?" because I might be responding to something on the telly or in posts without my providing the context. Despite knowing my own posting flubs that evoke hostile replies, I am still mystified at why the Flamers are so EAGER to *POUNCE* on this type of thread, while they never go near any of my well thought out/original threads, which sink like stones. Flamers are bursting to release the horrid build-up inside and they SWARM giving one another PERMISSION for more.

Mon Apr 1, 2019, 01:42 AM

I have seen that one or two people used it on me, which is fine. I think they, too have moved on to JPR, but I didn't pursue it. Why should I care if someone wants to put me on ignore? I'm not running for anything (except maybe a train to Utrecht or a plane to Geneva).

I sometimes get the occasional poster who tries to bait me, but I usually just answer to the point where it seems relevant and then just leave them hanging when it gets absurd. If they think they had the last word, let them think so. I don't live inside my computer. I have a family and a day job that is rather demanding, though it does involve a lot of travel that permits me to look in on DU at odd times (North American timezones, anyway) of the day and night.

I just figure even the worst jerk, if they came on here for any other reason then causing trouble, might just have something interesting to say (well, it COULD happen), so I leave the ignore feature alone. I am perfectly capable of simply ignoring posts I feel like ignoring (and I do).

And frankly, I think the alert feature is also 99% stupid.

Politics is about debate and conflict. Those aren't optional features; they are the essence of political engagement.

If you feel the need to be shielded from opinions and personalities, then you shouldn't be on a political forum. Just my $.02
