Facts that really piss me off.

Many fast food restaurants cook in advance, this results in literally tons of food getting pitched every day.
At the same time people go to bed hungry.

There are over 16 million empty homes in America.
Enough to give 6 to every homeless. At a time when housing is ridiculously costly.

More recently...

Some people have not a single penny to their name.
Wall Street bonuses were 3x the earnings of all full-time workers making federal minimum wage

Why do people accept this, why do so many not try to change this?

I was brought up to think that rich people are rich because they desrerve it. That this was the way things are, the way things are supposed to be. That it would be immoral to deny them this wealth. I was also taught that it is poor people's lot in life to be that way, that people are poor through their own doing, because they were lazy, stupid, quit school, or whatever. That is their lot in life. Mix in a heavy dose of Gods' will. I don't believe this paradigm to be correct, but it was what I was taught.

Everything stays the same. No matter if it's a D or R. These things are constant and cannot change.

All you need to do is look at history. What has changed?

Spring training just wrapped up here. I work close to a stadium and walk by there everyday on my lunch walk. The other day I noticed there were hundreds of bags of hotdog buns in two large roll-off dumpsters (the ravens/crows were having a field day).

This was on the same day the news showed immigrants in cages under the viaduct.

When I was a waitress a few decades ago I saw the huge amount of food being thrown away. I asked the same question you did about why they didn’t donate it to food banks. It turns out that it’s against the law for restaurants to give cooked food to shelters or anyone else. The reason is food poisoning basically. So there are laws.

As for the number of empty houses, the local housing laws apply as does the Not In My Back Yard (NIMBLA) fights with City Hall. It turns out that homeowners pay local property taxes and have a huge say in what happens in their neighborhoods.

When a sizable number of citizens are happy to see children in dog cages don’t expect they’ll welcome the homeless into their neighborhoods any time soon.

Unfortunately, many of these good people are poor and unable to effect the changes in society that would correct much of the negative behavior we see in history and continuing today. It's no secret that
the change we seek must come from within each of us. Become the change you want in yourself and it will improve all societal conditions. But negative conditions endure because people don't seek to change or are unwilling to give up wealth, power or position. We must become the change and begin the change starting with ourselves, one self at a time. We can petition our lawmakers to make fair and just laws. We can treat our fellow humans with empathy and acceptance. We can raise holy hell with
everybody and yet we will succeed if only one person accepts the change in him/her self. Human history goes back at least 6 million years and we're still working at it!
