A hurricane and counterfeit money floating around. Not a good combination.

The article claims that there's counterfeit money turning up in Orlando. Fortunately, we won't be hit too hard by the hurricane, if at all; but there's no telling where that money is going to end up, so the article is listed below.

What I found more interesting was the comment made in the reader forum by the individual who identified themselves as "tiredoflibs." In response to a poster who said that many business don't accept anything over twenty dollars, tiredoflibs references Federal law, claiming that the money is legal tender and if the business refuses it, it voids any debt.

I'm thinking to myself, this must be the first time that someone who is opposed to Liberals (and probably Federal law) suddenly finds a reason to support the Feds. By the way, her picture is worth a look.

Secret Service: Counterfeit money passed in Orange County

The United States Secret Service Orlando Field Office and the Orange County Sheriff's Office are warning residents and business owners of phony money that may be floating around.

The fake hundred dollar bills look very similar to the real deal but there are some key differences: The font of the words "Federal Reserve Note" on the upper left hand side of the front of the bill is slightly different.

There are also some discrepancies on the treasury seal. A portion of the key is missing on the fake money and there is also a space at the bottom of the shield. on a real bill, the seal and the "100" that overlaps it should end at about the same place.

Anyone who may come across one of the bills is asked to get as much information as they can from the person who gave it to them without putting themselves in danger, then contact the Sheriff's Office or the Orlando Field Office at 407-648-6333
