Back before Christianity, the Queen of Connacht desired a brown bull to match her white bull. But the brown bull belonged to the neighboring King of Ulster. The Queen prevailed on her husband the King to make war on Ulster to get the bull. After months of fighting, many heroics and many deaths the Connachtmen get the brown bull and take it to their Queen. Both armies limp home, neither really having defeated the other. The brown bull put in the same pasture with the white bull gets into a fight with the white bull and he kills it. Then he breaks loose from his captors and runs home to Ulster. When he finally reaches his home pasture he lies down and his great heart gives out and he dies. Moral of the story seems to be that no one won in this war.

If a warlike society like the ancient Celts knew that, why don't we.
