Fires on this day in history.

On this day in 1497, the Bonfire of the Vanities took place in Florence, Italy, as supporters of the Dominican priest Girolamo Savonarola burned thousands of objects deemed to be associated with vanity, temptation, and sin. Artworks, books, cosmetics, dresses, mirrors, musical instruments and much more were burned.

I always thought it might have been the start of the Minimalist Movement.

The strange part is the Fire in Paris on the same day.

The bonfire took place a century before the new Gregorian calendar made a ten-day correction. So, adjusting for the change, the bonfire happened on Apr 5 or Apr 25, I can't figure out which.

"Bonfire of the Vanities" is my new name for "spring cleaning".
