(19,034 posts)I’m all for impeachment but I wasn’t sure if the OP meant start it immediately, or let the report stew with the public for a little bit longer and hear Mueller testify in public, which would obviously be quite dramatic.
I think timing is of some importance here. Another poster said more or less the same thing better than I am but their point was to let the storm build for a while before dropping the hammer. I don’t get the sense this is going to fade into the background any time soon, quite the contrary.

(42,770 posts)STRIKE NOW, when there's maximum impact. Waiting delegitimizes everything. We are SO appalled, and this is serious at this moment, not in two weeks. Call everyone back. Now. Why the hell do you to think they announced during recess? Trump is a master at media and timing.

(19,034 posts)I’m pretty encouraged with how it’s being covered. I think people are fired up because we were right all along.

(2,340 posts)She's going to have to be in a place where there's a fighting chance of getting enough Senate votes to convict as well
That's what I'm watching. If the House starts an impeachment inquiry it tells me she figures she's got a better than even shot at the Senate falling in line

(19,034 posts)He could have been caught red handed on the phone with Putin and the votes still wouldn’t be there. There is literally no scenario whatsoever where the senate gop nut jobs would ever convict him.
I suspect the Speaker knows that as well and it won’t deter her from acting in the house if she thinks public opinion is there.

(19,034 posts)Id like to March the mother fucker out of the WH tonight. But as far as impeachment I just don’t think it’s something that has to happen in the next 24 hours for it to be meaningful.
On edit what I’m most annoyed with tonight is the timetable for the public Mueller testimony.

And then rehash all the lying,
And rhetoric you've preached...
If you ever got impeached.

(5,676 posts)It wasn't just all about him trying to hide his campaign's collusion, but he also was trying to protect the Russian criminals involved in helping his campaign. Big reason that he continually denied Russian involvement was to protect himself and his kids so they could have plausible deniability regarding their criminality working with Russians, which has helped them escape charges of campaign violations.
No impeachment will demoralize many Dems and make Congress look weak if they just seem to shrug their shoulders accepting that he obstructed justice and lied about it all this time without any repercussions or formal rebuke. No impeachment by Congress will give Repubs a huge boost to gloat and claim total vindication.
