OTOH, a protest leader from the other side has sought asylum in the Chilean embassy. What's up with that?

With Russain and Cuban forces there and US aircraft carriers sailing there, this has the potential to be a very tense standoff—unless of course trump backs down to Putin, as has happened quite often.
