Barr's appointment as AG, for lack of a better term, was a kamikaze mission

The release of the Mueller report was a critical political point in Trump's presidency. He needed someone to obfuscate, confuse, muddy and mitigate the impact on the public's perception, reduce the shock- and take the lightning bolts- to the point where things could eventually calm down, and, hey, maybe if they were lucky the Dems would come around to thinking twice about impeaching him. Someone who may not "survive" the political fallout of that "softening" process.

Barr has been a disposable AG. He probably doesn't think he's going to go to jail for anything- Trump could pardon him anyway- but he's completely destroyed his credibility with his behavior, except that he's obviously gained respect from those who value lying on behalf of Il Douche. It's amazing someone with decades of professional law experience would do something like this. The Republicans have allowed our government to become a contemptible shambles.

By the way, I hate to say I told you so, but....

Did Barr think he was going to come out of this with renewed celebrity or esteem?

Why did he agree to work for Trump anyway?

All he had to do was take a look around and see that “everything Trump touches dies” (Rick Wilson - sometimes even a republican gets it right)

Regardless of any action by Trump.

That is like being excommunicated by the Catholic Church. A pardon is accepting an admission of guilt. I doubt the American Bar Association would want William Barr practicing law.

Why he’d trash his career will eventually come out. Lots of unanswered questions why lots of people have done what they’ve done. One day we’ll get all the answers. Just hope I live long enough to see it all explained. And the guilty parties punished appropriately.
