Trump faces stiff opposition from Republicans in his desire for a massive infrastructure package.
GOP lawmakers say the presidents grand proposal for a $2 trillion deal is too ambitious and warn that they will oppose any measure that adds to the deficit.
Many Republicans also say they are against raising taxes to pay for an infrastructure initiative, a stance that would make it extremely difficult to find money to finance a package even half the size of Trumps desired amount.
Congressional Republicans say they are worried about passing a reprise of former President Obamas 2009 fiscal stimulus, which was devoted to shovel ready infrastructure projects and green energy production.

I think all Dems should run on infrastructure. Trump promised, people loked it, but he could not deliver. Now we need full Democratic control to get it done.

(82,849 posts)You must be some kind of super-brainiac knowing-stuff ninja dude! Because all everyone had to say in the immediate aftermath of this story was what a coup this was for Trump, and he was pivoting into being presidential and stuff, and boy, wotta burn on all the Democrats running for president in 2020 because now Trump had totally pwned them!
Because, for a fact, practically nobody whose full-time job it is to observe the political scene expressed the least amount of skepticism that President Shart of the Deal had done it again.
But isn't it great to see Republican concern for the deficit make a comeback? Even after they added trillions to it with their tax cut package for their wealthy pals?
