Remember that.
Yes, the news is filled with stories of racists openly promoting their brand.
And yes, Trump dominates the media with his open hatred and vicious attacks on anyone who does not share his hate.
And yes, the clash between the House and Trump is like a slow motion train wreck.
But remember, and repeat to yourself, that Trump lost by over 3 million votes. In spite of all the GOP cheating, in spite of the suppression, in spite of Comey's lying right before the election, in spite of the corporate media creating and normalizing Trump, HRC beat Trump by over 3 million votes.
The haters are losing.
The racists are losing.
This country is changing and the white racists do not like the changes, but they cannot stop them. No walls can stop the demographic changes.
2018 showed what an energized electorate can accomplish.
2020 is the next step.
Keep hope, and be energized for the election.

(42,641 posts)Yes, and we need to see how much Trump and his voters are driven by fear.

(66,327 posts)That's very inspiring. And refreshing. I dislike doom-and-gloom postings.
We're going to beat this. It took us eight years last time, not to mention two wars, a hurricane, and a crumbling economy. God willing, it will only take us four years this time, give or take a House Judiciary committee hearing or two.

(42,641 posts)These Trump voters are driven by fear of changes that they cannot reverse. No amount of guns, no walls, can stop the demographic changes.
look at all of the race based hate directed at AOC, at Ilhan Omar. At Barack Obama.
Hate of the other that is rapidly becoming the new us.

(6,549 posts)It is hard to deal with doom and gloom day after day without looking at the flip side of things. If we cannot see both sides, we get mired down in the muck. In order to tackle problems, we need to se the positive as well as the negative. Hope is a positive motivating force that is strong for human beings.
guillaumeb
(42,641 posts)Focusing only on the negative can lead to depression and paralysis.

And that is what the haters want. We outnumber them. We hugely outnumber them. And at some level, I think that the somewhat sane among them know that.
It is fear that drives them, and they hope to use fear and intimidation to win.
We simply cannot allow that.

guillaumeb
(42,641 posts)Welcome to Du, and the conversation Penn.
We know that hate is based on fear. Fear of the other. And fear is a powerful motivator. But this hate of the other is often based on ignorance of the other, and education can eliminate that ignorance.
Love is based on the acceptance of the other, and a recognition that, depending on who is speaking, we are all "the other".
