Trump's cult is the half of white America made up of miserable jerks

Last edited Sat May 4, 2019, 05:04 PM - Edit history (1)

People who are spoon fed daily diet of anger and resentment. It’s why white entitlement is at epidemic levels in this country.

Trump speaks to these people in their language and nothing that concerns ourselves about him matters to them, only the fact that he appalls, disgusts and angers us. They consider our pain and anger as their entertainment, because their lives are so miserable and angry otherwise.

They’re not going to be reached, so they need to be disenfranchised instead. The stranglehold that they have on our government needs to be removed. The courts need to undo gerrymandering and we need to fight against them with our votes on every front.

We can’t presume that our arguments will be persuasive for them, because they’re programmed to disregard us no matter what we tell them. Their frames of reference are all askew.

We need to get out the vote and take our government back, in spite of them. When we do, they’re going to attack us again, because nothing means more to them than beating us... Even if what we’re doing with power helps them to prosper as well.

Remember, they will only define themselves by the enemies that they think they hate, even if those people aren’t their enemies at all. That’s all they have to live for. So the best thing to do is just to let them stew in their own juices.

On the other hand, we need to get back to a position where we can do the best for all, even if we have to drag Trump’ Cult behind us kicking and screaming.

1. The Trump cult reminds me of the "Know Nothings". Also ant-immigrant, anti-Catholic, they proudly

called themselves the "Know Nothings".

I was talking to one of my dearest friends the other day, and when I said something about Trump, she actually put her fingers in her ears and began saying loudly, over and over "I don't hear you! I don't hear you!"

The GOP is appealing to voters on a deep primal level, and they are using the unprecedented data available from social media to target very specific personalities and very specific locations.

12. I don't debate Trump cultists anymore.

Any time they spout their garbage, my reaction these days is to look at them funny and ask "Are you fucking stupid?"

Don't debate them. Shame them. All of them. If you saw the same footage during the election campaign that I did, with him grabbing his own daughter's ass, mocking a person with a disability, inciting violence at his Nuremburg rallies, and bragging about grabbing women by the ***, and you checked the box for him anyways, that makes you a piece of shit.

Change my view on this. ALL Trump supporters are fucking assholes that we should be cutting out of our lives.

14. Every time I've tried debating them civilly, they've acted in bad faith.

Debate them, and you'll get Gish-Galloped, gaslit, lied to, shouted down, and possibly threatened.

Why should I let them play that game.

3. Some of my younger relatives

act entitled, and are a bit confused and resentful that the rest of the world isn't fulfilling their entitlement expectations.
They lack any ability to organize themselves to achieve their wish fulfillment, and make unreasonable demands of older relatives who they see as privileged and better off.

Then again, I also have younger relatives who accept things for what they are, and have made a real go at achieving something with their lives.

Guess:

1. Which group I avoid, and which group I enjoy the company of?

2. Which group gets a definite 'no' when they come up with demands, and which group I listen to much more closely?

Just a reflection of the whole of society really. But it benefits intelligent people to recognize what the people in their immediate environment are like, and not be taken advantage of.

Trump really has tapped into the first group. But it is not society's role to cater for them, or to lead them to a better understanding of the world. Isolate them, ignore them, neutralize their negative impact on your life as best you can.

And let's start by clearing out the White House and all the Trump followers who feed off his personality problems.

They were a lost group from the start. I prefer to put my efforts where it will do some good. I know a lot of DUers want to try to convince some who may have a few functioning brain cells left but not me.

This is why I do not care if it is Mayor Pete, Uncle Joe, Senator Kamala, or the Bern (or any of the others). A win is simply a win. It needs to be big, big enough to cover the House and Senate as well. Then we need to start passing stuff, a lot of stuff, a federal right to choice, equal rights, medicare for all or something like it, tax the 1% and maybe the 2% and 3% while we are at it, green new deal or something like it, a new clean water act, bump the SCOTUS to 11 or 13 justices, and much more.

No holds barred, do it all and do it all fast. First 100 days would be good.

8. free floating anger, looking for something "righteous" to attach

itself to. it has become a pox on our species.
there are just people out there who are angry and dont even know why. i feel sorry for their families. they are the kind of parents that beat their kids over spilled milk.
they really want to be righteous in their anger, to feel like they are on the side of the angels. so they cling to any grievance.

seems like this is the root of authoritarianism.

this worries me. I think one of the factors in the last election was the meek women factor. They didn't pick Trump but were influenced in the end to go Trump.

If enough women had voted the way one would have expected Trump could not have been elected in 2016. This factor worries me for 2020. We can't take the women for granted.

10. By "last election" I presume you mean 2016...

because the real last election was 2018 and we pretty much cleaned their clocks.

Women were a huge part of that. Fucking HUGE. We need that to continue into 2020. If we do, we will prevail.

Sorry, but ignoring what happened in 2018 is very much "taking women for granted." Grow a spine and stiff upper lip and all that. This isn't over yet. More women are on the right side of this than ever.

As one bona fide American hero once said, "I have not yet begun to fight!"

There is just so damn much at stake. We have to show the trump residency the door. and we need to win the Senate too...
