Before you make that outraged "Cancel my subscription" call to Newsweek ...

here's a little context. The same issue that contained Niall Ferguson's insipid anti-Obama screed also contained an essay about the Russian band Pussy Riot, which concluded with the words, " ... but their voices will still be heard". Also in that issue you can find an article decrying the increasing violence against American Muslims, complete with denunciations of Limbaugh, Eric Cantor, John Bolton, and Mitt Romney (whom Newsweek points out "predictably tried to have it both ways". Next came an article entitled "Mitt's Seedy Coming-Out Party" which expounded on the Rick Scott - Mitt Romney rift, while also highlighting Scott's voluminous legal and ethical problems.
Look, Newsweek isn't my favorite magazine (that would be The Nation), but as far as mainstream journalism goes, they seem to at least try to play it pretty much down the middle.
After all, wasn't it just two weeks ago that the Repukes were pissing and moaning about a Newsweek cover bearing the legend "Romney: The WIMP Factor"? That cover provided a lead in to an article entitled "A Mouse in the White House? (Mitt has bowed to reporters and cowered from the right. He's a candidate with a serious wimp problem.)" The ensuing piece was, to put it mildly, less than complimentary to Mittens.
If you don't like the magazine, don't read it. But outraged calls for mass subscription cancellations smack of a childish need to have one's particular choir preached to exclusively.

not read the magazine, wouldn't you have to cancel the subscription? Otherwise, you would be paying for it and not reading it and Newsweek wouldn't give a crap then.

On the other hand, if one insisted on the highest standards of journalism, one wouldn't have purchased a Newsweek subscription.

So in conclusion, meh.

I wouldn't stay with them even with a $20 per year offer. The all editorial format is crap. I wanted news. If I want editorials, I'd go read foxnews.com
