(16,887 posts)For Trump, Kushner and the rest of them, there is some kind of gain they see - as twisted as that sounds, its sadly the truth.
One win is that a War provides a sort of shield for them - that "criticizing" the President in a time of War is seen as "Unpatriotic"...
Imagine being the Democrat or Republican that has to go on record "defending the Iranians"...
Or the Media person criticizing a "War time President"....
Imagine those that will be accused of undermining our National Security....
Imagine the powers that come with a War....
And he doesn't have to follow the Constitution and wait for Congress to declare War....he has the power already to start one...and the Nuclear Code....

(90,336 posts)On the oil issue, Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif said two weeks ago that Iran would continue to sell its oil on world markets and the US should not try to stop it.
"If the United States takes the crazy measure of trying to prevent us from doing that," Zarif said, "then it should be prepared for the consequences."

(18,672 posts)It was pretty vivid. To sum it up, Trump fucked up with Iran. The world leaders were at a summit overseas trying to determine what to do about the situation. Next thing we know, we got word in the states that nukes had been launched and a girl started listing all the countries that were "gone". My dream ended waiting for nukes to hit. I thought we were done with this shit.
Trump is why we need to worry about the possibility of a full-blown war and if that happens, he will not hesitate to use nukes. He's itching to use them. He needs to be removed from office. Humans might deserve annihilation by our ridiculous actions but the beautiful life we share this planet with do not.

(8,144 posts)He did a lot of serious lobbying for the invasion of Iraq. Always has wanted us in a war in the Mideast. He wont be standing on the sidelines, notnwhen he perceives Iran as an existential threat to Israel.
But back to Iraq.in the first days after 9/11 when NYT editorials were pushing for Bush to DO something, front page news report stated that Israeli intelligence had discovered who was responsible: Saddam Hussein.
Very interesting. Sorry no citation. But I read it in an archive in the actual clipping.
I found the archive attached at that time to Hillarys election website. Many goodies there, news articles, blogs that captured the climate of those early days.
Could it be that Israeli intelligence passed on the info. that Iran is preparing an attack?

(36,298 posts)"Hersh: Bush Plans On War With Iran UsingTactical Nukes (UPDATED)
A new, troubling story in the New Yorker from investigative reporter Seymour Hersh who has had a pretty good track record in recent years says President George Bush has already made up his mind to go to war with Iran and to use tactical nuclear weapons.
The reason: Iran is hellbent on pursuing its nuclear program despite
an international clamor so Bush is planning a devastating preemptive attack. As in the case of Iraq, theres an assumption that the people will overthrow Irans government led by its extremist President. Meanwhile, according to Hersh, Democrats in Congress know little of what is being planned. Its all quite hush-hush. "

Governor Newsom seeks an explanation for Californias high gas prices
Associated Press
APR 23, 2019
Gov. Gavin Newsom wants to know why Californias gasoline prices are higher than in the rest of the country, blaming potential inappropriate industry practices Tuesday rather than the state's higher taxes and tougher environmental regulations.
Newsom asked the California Energy Commission for an analysis of the state's gas prices by May 15. California drivers were paying an average of $4.03 a gallon Tuesday, or $1.18 more than the national average, according to AAA.

In 2017, the state's Petroleum Market Advisory Committee found that California has had a continuous and significant unexplained differential compared to the rest of the country since February 2015. That difference has cost Californians more than $17 billion, or about $1,700 for a family of four, said Severin Borenstein, faculty director at the Energy Institute at UC Berkeley's business school.
In a letter to energy commission Chairman David Hochschild, Newsom defended the state's environmental standards, accusing critics of using the high prices to undermine our clean air and safety standards.
Independent analysis suggests that an unaccounted-for price differential exists in California's gas prices and that this price differential may stem in part from inappropriate industry practices, the Democratic governor wrote.
