So to repeat: Comey is not talking about Redemption, so perhaps your anger is over a misunderstanding because of poor writing on my part.
My post was stating that I and others believe in Redemption.
To put it in religious terms, every sinner can be redeemed if they work hard for that. Comey imho is walking the road of redemption.
It is Totally your prerogative to believe all sinners deserve hell. But I believe were all sinners and and redemption is in our grasp if we change our way and work for good.
Take care and have a great weekend!

(9,967 posts)I don't see that from Comey. He is moralizing and pointing fingers, while not taking responsibility for his role in this mess.
The day Comey shows true remorse and asks for forgiveness from Hillary, her voters, babies in cages and their parents, America and the world, that will be the day to talk about redemption.

I first remember Comey from his testimony to Congress about helping Ashcroft withstand an illegal order from Bush. Comey worked in the Justice Department at the time.
I think he's horrified that he got Trump elected. I think he's basically a good guy. He has good insights into how Trump operates. He's a good person to have on our side.
But I doubt he'd make a good President.

(51,787 posts)And in that interview he says he did that press conference and sent that Oct. 28, 2016 letter to protect that FBI from potential criticism for not prosecuting Hillary. So in essence he did it because he's afraid of Republicans. Gah!
Otherwise, a good performance, particularly his repeatedly pointing out that Trump constantly lies, and we can't have that in a leader.

(37,648 posts)You mean you think he is responsible for Trump winning? He's not.
There's no evidence at all that his October surprise stopped her from winning. The polls before the Comey news thing and right before the election showed no effect, for the most part, and her numbers actually went up in a couple of polls.
He made a stupid mistake. I understand his reasoning, but it was against DOJ policy, is my understanding. But it didn't interfere with the election. I think the reason for that may have been that people were sick of hearing about the emails, and let's face it, millions of people don't follow the news and never even saw him do his October surprise.
Russia hacked some districts. That's how Trump knew he'd win PA even though he was behind in the polls. Some Governors and Secretaries of State and local officials also pulled some illegal acts, I'm sure.
Thing is, let's face it...if the race weren't close, he wouldn't have won. It's easy to blame Comey, but he's not to blame.
lunamagica
(9,967 posts)And you know tat giving the kind of press conference he gave 11 DAYS before the election? That is not done. It is against all protocol.

(37,648 posts)Things aren't so just because you think they must be. There is either some indication or there's not. There isn't, that I've ever seen.
I researched this and did a document looking at the polls leading up to the election. The polls did not indicate that Clinton took any hit at all after the October surprise, and in fact, she increased in a couple of the polls.
One poll that DID show a switch from Clinton leading to Trump leading by 4: One with Jill Stein in the mix. With Jill Stein in the mix, Clinton was behind in the poll. Same poll, with Stein removed, Clinton was in the lead.
Stein took votes from her. Stein was connected to Russia. And of course Russia was trying to hack election systems (fact) and had 10,000 or more agents/trolls working the internet with fake accounts and such.
I understand why people think so. I did, too, at first. Until I really looked at it. Evidence shows that he didn't cause her to lose.
If you remember, the LAST polls before election night showed Clinton in the lead in almost all of 13 polls. Small leads, for sure. But leading. I don't recall any election where a candidate was leading to that extent, and lost. It was rigged, all right. And Stein was put in, to siphon off votes, courtesy of Russia.

(37,648 posts)He has explained thoroughly the reasons for the two press announcements. I think they were mistakes, but in any case, I accept his explanation as doing what he thought was right at the time. He doesn't have a history of lying or doing anything unethical.
There is no evidence that the October statement affected the results. None. There IS evidence that Russia affected the results, and Jill Stein siphoned off much needed Clinton votes. And of course, some people didn't show up to vote at all, which baffles me.
He reminded people that the ordinary rules the FBI followed did not apply, since what they were trying to handle was a 500 year tsunami. He thought it was important to keep the public apprised of what was going on. Now, I think that was a mistake, but I don't think it was intentional or even an error from the FBI's viewpoint. In any case, I didn't find any evidence that it affected the polls. Like I said, a couple of the polls even went up for Hillary by election time.
That's just my opinion. Everyone has his own opinion about different things.
Couldn't have said it better myself.
