Huffington Post & Advertising.com Dependency. If the ad trackers are blocked, HuffPo won't load.

.

Hah!

I have a block on advertising.com, as an untrusted website.

As such, I guess I won't be visiting Huffington Post anymore, as there is a hard redirect to advertising.com.

I get this, when using huffpost.com, huffingtonpost.com or huffpo.com: Problem Loading Page

https://guce.advertising.com/collectIdentifiers?sessionId=1_cc-session_859f946f-caa8-4296-af12-a17c9a4e9fe0

Unable to connect

Firefox can’t establish a connection to the server at guce.advertising.com.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer’s network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

I got this error, it disappeared for a day, now it's back for 2 days straight. I guess they're ironing out the trackers.

Bye.

There's a setting in FF to prevent auto-play videos, where you have to click on them first. TheBlackAdder May 2019 #2

I forget what I changed, but if you search on it, you'll see there are a couple of parms to disable.

Firefox remains my favored browser, but I'm increasingly using others because of some of these issues.

Always allow or disallow media autoplay

Click the menu button and choose Options. Preferences.
Select the Privacy & Security panel.
Scroll down to the Permissions section.
Use the Block websites from automatically playing sound setting to change your preference. Your selection will apply to all media for all websites.

I subscribe to a few sites to avoid advertising and because I otherwise want to support them. DU is one.

I regularly visit a few technical sites that have very tightly targeted unobtrusive advertising for things like LED lighting technologies or industrial control systems. I don't block any ads on those, and occasionally I'll even click on an ad that will take me directly to someplace I want to be.

But I use u-Block Origin to protect myself from advertising that moves, flashes, or makes noise. That's my favorite ad blocker.

At times I've blacklisted Huffington Post itself to remind myself I'm likely to be irritated if I follow any link to it.
