(7,142 posts)I'm not sure if this is the same guy who has dual citizenship and that's how he gets away with this.
There needs to be a law that deals with donations from people with dual citizenship whether this was the guy or not.

(4,035 posts)My dearly departed mother-in-law would say that they are a sneaky party 30 years ago. Its in their DNA. The question becomes, why? Whats so dreadful about seeing to the needs of the electorate and the betterment of life in America? Clean water? Clean air? Safe travel? Their mind set is distorted.

(16,845 posts)They sell themselves out to the highest bidder -- big oil, but pharma, or any industry. They claim to be pro-business, and that's fine, but just because you want to see business people succeed doesn't mean you have to shit on everyone else. They care about money above all else, especially the money that flows into their coffers. There are a few of them who have a conscience, but it's buried pretty deep and you really have to shame the hell out of them to get them to do the right thing.

(15,250 posts)They have been slowly testing the bounds of our democracy, chipping away a bit at a time. I think they have discovered that a lot of Americans don't care enough to put up a fight.

(20,018 posts)I think that's exactly the situation.

(4,035 posts)I read many years ago about the Republican plan of pushing the boundaries as hard to the right as they possibly could, thereby making Democrats compromise closer to the Republican issue (the right of center) and farther away from the Democrats position.

Other than my hubby, I had no one to commiserate with over that horrendous coup and it was that thief that prompted my search for online political forums. When you're surrounded by a cesspool of ignorance and sociopathy, you need support in order to keep what's left of your sanity. I thank the stars, first for Bartcop, then for DU!
Talk about a cesspool, somehow I wandered into the Disscussionist. Omg, the lies and propaganda over there is unbelievable. There seems to be no objectivity.

They may all have different agendas and plans for the future, but they all want an end to giving the common people a voice. Whether in the US or USSRussia.
They need to subpoena more tax returns and start investigations on Mitch, Marco, Lindsey, and any other mofo suspected of taking rubles.

(10,170 posts)So where are all our kings of capitalism? Why are they so willing to follow Putin's lead too? Why are they letting a white trash mobster and his sex worker spouse run amuck in our government, destroying the rule of law, spreading hate, ugliness and stupidity?
Why are our super rich just fine with Russian interference? Why are they fine having a white trash mobster and a sex worker represent the United States of America?

(4,035 posts)Thats all its about - control and money. Who wouldnt want to be a billionaire oligarch? Hell, with a little bit of luck, Trump will assign all of his loyal minions categories of commerce to make them rich beyond their wildest beliefs. Democracy? Whats the point if you are stinking rich and have total control. Theyll still be able to buy Kobi steak while the rest of us drink nucleated water and mercurious air.
Sorry, I get on a rant occasionally.

(10,170 posts)I guess like you say, if you're richer than a small country you don't need democracy. Democracy is for the little people, the unwashed masses,
The rich have really mucked up this country.

(37,648 posts)He backs the Republicans. No doubt about it. But he has also donated to some very well known Democrats and Democratic committees, according to Wikipedia. He's an oligarch businessman who owns a huge conglomerate, with chemicals & oil & media holdings. He hedges his bets, seems like.
Look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leonard_Blavatnik, in the "Political Donations" section.
Look at the names of candidates he has contributed to. One of the sources for some of those names is Politico. IF it's correct.
A source that Politico used is https://www.opensecrets.org/search?q=blavatnik&cx=010677907462955562473%3Anlldkv0jvam&cof=FORID%3A11&siteurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.opensecrets.org%2Fnews%2F2013%2F10%2Fmore-than-kochs-small-donors-fueled%2F
There are current Democratic candidates who got a donation or two from this guy in the past. Seems like he's just a greedy multi-billionaire who gives money to anyone he thinks might have power to benefit him financially.

Are you receiving money from Russia? How can we trust you to represent South Carolina when you are getting money from Russia?
We can take him down. Theres got to be some Democratic candidate who could be viable!

(570 posts)Did you really think the Republicans actually give a crap about Trump? No, they dont. What theyre doing by defending him is circling the wagons around the GOP itself.
Trump is their useful idiot too. Hes so outrageous that he keeps all eyes on him. Hes nothing more than a carnival barker, a clown. The entire Trump clan is either too stupid or too busy being greedy rats scurrying around or both to bother noticing.
Michael Cohens booby prize was to be made deputy chair of the finance committee at the RNC. Hes come out and said that the Republican Partys been taking money from foreigners including China, and he has the receipts to prove it.
This is why the Republicans have backed Citizens United. Its like what progressive radio talk show host, Thom Hartmann, has pointed out: we havent had a legitimate Republican president since Eisenhower.
All thats left to write about the GOP at this point is its obituary.
