The Hangout Music Fest, featuring artists like Cardi B, Vampire Weekend and others.
I would hope at least some of the bands there call out Alabama for their new abortion ban (probably too late to get out of contracts for this weekend) and vow not to play there again until the ban is repealed.

(102,236 posts)Screw Alabama. Sorry, Alabamans, but you have to take responsibility for your own elected officials. They weren't put there by God, no matter what they say.
And yes, Colorado went through this with the infamous Prop 43--that resulted in statewide boycotts. Though Denver and other more liberal parts of the state did not support it, we all suffered the consequences until our own Supreme Court struck it down and more importantly, we organized to get rid of the a'holes who brought it.

Its time the constituency share some blame for the ridiculous policies and laws set forth in their name.

Vampire Weekend is a big alternative band - their new album released this past week is the year's #1 seller already. I only know them because a lot of my daughter's friends like them (she's a high school junior)

(33,327 posts)boycotts won't change anything.
the white men who voted for this DGAF if AL suffers economically as a result. they'd be happy to turn the clock back 150 years, let alone 50.

(56,828 posts)public pressure led to Indiana adopting an amendment to protect LGBTQ persons, and the threat of boycotts meant RW governor Jan Brewer did not sign a similar law in Arizona.
In both cases, it was high profile business leaders and celebrities speaking out

(33,327 posts)Abortion is THE binary issue that many Repubs base their party allegiance on (for instance, several of my cousins).
This is their moment, a culmination of 30 years of death-by-a-1000-cuts legislative action in the states, and they're seizing it. They believe the SCOTUS is now aligned to overturn. It's a pretty good bet.
Cardi B telling old white men she won't come back to AL? They'll be overjoyed.
