https://www.reproductiverights.org/what-if-roe-fell <--Lots of data on this site--worth taking a lookObviously, states that have not passed state-specific bans on abortion in the event of Roe being overturned could certainly do so. The link for this data includes the status of legislatures in each of the states. Colorado has had its fights and will again, especially given it will become a regional destination from all the surrounding states.

(34,108 posts)Kansas now allows abortion and will protect the right of its citizens to have one even if the Federal Government gets rid of Roe v Wade.
**That is until the R's get their bright and shiny constitutional amendment ready to make it impossible to ever get one. We will see how they do with that.

It is so rare that there is anything good out of Kansas that I have to get it all said.

(102,253 posts)Perhaps the extremists in the legislature and the Kris Kobach ilk thought they could bamboozle your justices. I'm relieved to see they could not.

(102,253 posts)It is current to 2/21/19. And, as clearly stated, even in relatively safe Colorado, this could change in a heartbeat with a turnover of STATE legislature to Republicans. If ROE is overturned the most likely RESULTING scenario (and one which Congressional R's have argued for decades) it becomes a state issue and SCOTUS would thus turn the decision back to the states. If that does happen it would be very difficult for a CONGRESS to try to legislate on top of that in a way that would pass constitutional muster.
It is a not uncommon misconception that if ROE is overturned then abortion automatically becomes illegal throughout the country. That is NOT the case. It falls to the states.
Don't believe me. Countless legal opinions have been published on this. Laurence Tribe. Neal Katayal, Norm Eisen, Walter Dillenger, Erwin Chemerinsky, Edward Lazarus, Cass Sunstein, and on and on and on... EVEN RW-leaning legal scholars agree.
If Roe v Wade is overturned, will abortion become illegal in the US?
In the absence of Roe v Wade, a woman's access to abortion would be affected by the state she lives in.

(1,570 posts)We're dealing with religious fanatics here. The only reason they didn't do it the last 2 times they had control was Roe v Wade.
hlthe2b
(102,253 posts)think they can successfully pass it nor do I think they WANT to. They know the public doesn't support a national ban. They WANT SCOTUS to overturn ROE--to do the "dirty work", but it then falls to the states.

(20,246 posts)Wow, she did say some points that struck me.
The brutal dictator of Germany imposed this kind of law and padlocked clinics dealing in birth control, etc. Also, if legislators can regulate control over the bodies of women AND men, who's to say they could also impose/demand sterilization on people.
Please do not be upset with me because of my Faith. But I/we never condemn any who have or will have made that choice. Heaven knows it's happened in our midst.
Even as a practicing Christian, I've contemplated the abortion issue and have come to realize it should be a civil issue that has attained the legally decided resolution by the Supreme Court. And then should stay there having been decided. [Did that make sense?]
Don't think because we communicate in a church setting that we are sinless and perfect. We experience the same as all our sisters and brothers in humanity.
Please all, forgive me for this post. Not my intent to offend anyone. 💛

(13,776 posts)In fact I think its a shame that anyone of faith should feel as though they should apologize for that faith, if they arent judging anyone or expecting others to live according to the same tenets.
Youre compassionate and awesome.

(20,246 posts)Two people close to me [acquaintances] chose to have abortions. One who I was best friends with and one I met a number of years after the fact. I never judged them for the decision they made.
I had remorse that my friend told me after it happened. We were just out of high school.
I hugged her and said I love you. Sure if I had been more mature, I mb could've found a plan. She had a steady so there was that. We all hung together. But they made their decision and judging her never ever entered into me.
Peace be to all...
hlthe2b
(102,253 posts)that you are tolerant of other's decisions. You've demonstrated just that. Women who can not imagine ever personally having an abortion but do not try to instill their own beliefs on others are fully within the movement.

(20,246 posts)'They' been noted for strongly impressing their stylized practice of Christianity on others.
I've been asked numerous times, "Where do you go to church?" by complete strangers out of the blue. This is a turn-off.
I don't mind getting prayed for out and about, but don't ask me if I'm saved. or some such.

Funny how these old white guys have alienated minorities, LGBTQ, young people and now women.
