when challenged, she basically told Kelly O that she, Kelly O, was buying traitor trump's message.
Which Kelly O often does in her reporting. Explaining him and giving him the edge.

(35,454 posts)But then, ODonnell asked Pelosi if she would be willing to not use phrases like cover-up, or to not, perhaps, provoke him, would you be open to that?
Well, you have bought into his excuse, Pelosi said. That was not a reason that he did that yesterday. That was an excuse for him to do that.
And with all due respect your question, Pelosi continued, over protestations from ODonnell, I do not intend to not to honor my oath of office, nor do my colleagues in the House of Representatives, to honor our oath of office to protect and defend the Constitution, which has a system of checks and balances, a separation of power in it, and again, its a question of the American people understanding that what he is doing is an assault on the Constitution of the United States.
We can walk and chew gum at the same time, Pelosi said. I hope he can too.

(82,849 posts)Pelosi starts her answer, and it's clearly not going in the direction that O'Donnell wants it to go so she tries to interrupt, but Pelosi keeps going and gets the entirety of her answer out. Watch and learn, other Democrats.
I also liked how Pelosi described the House's duty, and invoked the American people and their expectations. Very well done, Speaker Pelosi.

(21,564 posts)There is a meme out there appropriate to this day and age. It says something along the lines of: if the president says that it is raining your job isnt to report that as fact, it is to report he said it but then look out the fucking window and tell us what it is actually doing outside.

Criticize a reporter if you must, but a blanket castigation of the press in general is ignorant and dangerous, IMO.

(3,479 posts)Not only were they Trump's best friend during the 2016 election, throwing him softball questions (remember Matt Lauer) and lowering the bar for his braindead ass on every occasion, now they expect our elected leaders to walk on eggshells for him too.
Trump accuses Democrats of advocating infanticide and the NYTs calls it an "inaccurate refrain". Not gaslighting, not blatant and dangerous lying, no. An inaccurate refrain. Pathetic.

(58,785 posts)and was sort of listening to a woman talking cheerfully about what "we" in the WH were doing, so friendly and subjective, and with at least one "we," that of course I assumed a staff spokeswoman. When I turned, though, I was surprised to see her standing outside the WH grounds. O'Donnell. I remember that every time I see her, which is only when I don't avoid it.

(32,638 posts)... however she doesn't work FOR the President or the US government. So I do get your meaning.
The media reporters need to be more careful about nuances of seeming to take sides, even when they aren't taking sides. Every national news outlet (newspapers, radio, TV and magazine/journals) have this same balancing act going on. They're trying to hang on to their access by reporting things in a way that pleases Chump. And yet more than anybody they can see how crazy and irrational he is, how it doesn't matter what you do or say, he can take away your credentials in a heartbeat just because he can.

(58,785 posts)this, including Andrea Mitchell whose show she was just on, are at very least complicit in all the evil and traitorous RW doings these days.
I've read that becoming and remaining part of the "in crowds" in DC is very seductive; an ultimate "better" group. People really are effectively selling their souls to belong. One famous WaPo editor said she spent decades watching people change from who they were when they came to...a sort of DC template person. Can't remember her words, would have to read her book again, but there was no admiration in her observations by a long shot.

(6,251 posts)Since Sarah Sanders isn't holding press briefings in the White House anymore, the press need something to cover, words and pictures to fill up that enormous 24-hour cycle. They have discovered that Nancy Pelosi's morning briefing gives them just what they need.
I don't remember ever seeing a Speaker's press conference covered live and in detail before this month. Pelosi is filling the gap, giving the press what they need and getting the Democratic point of view out there every day.
She is playing 11-dimensional chess!
kag
(4,079 posts)But you're right. Dumpf and Sanders think they're so smart by "punishing" the press corp by not having briefings. Then our Speaker slips right in and fills the void. Smart.
I can think of a lot of voids she can fill. If the orange menace doesn't want to run the country, Madam Speaker will, and she'll be infinitely better at it.

Wednesdays dustup between Donald Trump and Nancy Pelosi, in which Trump stormed out of a meeting after Pelosi claimed he was executing a cover-up, was poised to be the political slap-fight of the week. That is, until Kellyanne Conway wormed her way into the fray. On Wednesday, the presidential adviser asked Pelosi if she wanted to respond to Trumps post-meeting speech in the Rose Garden. To which Pelosi said, a source in the room told CNBC: I dont talk to staff. I talk directly to the president.
Pelosis chief of staff later clarified that the speaker said: Im responding to the president, not staff. Which, tomayto, tomahto. The real kicker came when Conway reportedly shot back with, Wow, thats really pro-woman of you.

When asked for comment on Conways Fox interview Thursday, Pelosi responded, Im not going to talk about her.
