It won't be time to take to the streets, it will be time to recruit members of the military to join a new revolution and overthrow of the entire federal government. It will be time to dissolve the failed union and seek to restructure America in a new image for a new century and a new Constitution.
A new Constitution that protects EVERYONE'S EQUAL RIGHTS and undoes the founding errors of our current republic - including the Electoral College, "3/5ths", limited rights to the franchise, universal rights to health care, unimpeded rights to freedom of AND from religion, definitions that corporations are NOT people, money is NOT speech, media without proper balance is not FREE, and military might is NOT something to wave around like a flag at a parade...
SCOTUS appointments for 10 year, once renewable terms on the bench, 20 years max.
Presidential terms of no more than 3 consecutive 4 year terms, 12 years max.
Senators eligible for no more than 3 consecutive 6 year terms, 18 years max.
Representatives eligible for no more than 5 consecutive 3 year terms, 15 years max.
Enough of the perpetual campaign as well, ALL elections to federal positions MUST be publicly financed and held in time-bounded periods that include open voting for citizens by any means necessary - early, in-person, on-line, mail-in...eligible voters get a ballot and options to turn them in along with time to do so...
Government of, by and for the people does NOT mean a career move for only the richest people...or those with the most expansive list of people who "owe them favors". Representative government must also be representative OF the people - the average net worth of the Congress must be reported EVERY new Congress and if the distribution of House and Senate members is greater than the IRS reported median income of the United States, the Congress must work with only the median income as well...
Private "fact-finding" missions are banned.
Private donors are to be held in prison for the duration of the impacted Congress.
National service in the military or a civilian corp of engineers will be compulsory for a period of 18 months between a citizen's 18th and 30th birthday, without exception. Civilians will be employed for clean-up and service in the 50 lowest income districts in the nation.
