"SNIP....

A defiant Roy Moore brushed aside Donald Trump’s warning not to run for Senate again, telling Politico on Wednesday that Alabama voters are capable of deciding for themselves whether he’s fit for office.

Said Moore: “The president doesn’t control who votes for the United States Senate in Alabama. People in Alabama are smarter than that. They elect the senator from Alabama, not from Washington, D.C.”

party plays at the extreme. At some point, some party members become feral and they will either eat the rest, or have to be put down firmly. Moore won't listen to Trump nor Alabama republican politicians, he has beaten them before and has no reason to think that he can't do it again.

Our chances of holding that seat are slim no matter what. But nothing can improve the chances like a good religious inspired smack-down between republicans.

A pretty high percentage of Alabama republicans think government should be the embodiment of what their hillbilly preachers preach. They see their vote as a reflection of their salvation. Whatever the hell that means. And to many of them voting against Moore is a vote against god.

Occasionally I read the Birmingham newspaper online which allows pretty much unedited comments. These people are crazy.

Jones may very well lose in 2020 but it won't be to moore. I want moore to run just so he can be humiliated again. They turned over every dirt clod in this state to find votes for moore last time and he still lost, to a Democrat, in Alabama. Any other repub would have won that race. Now he's going to try again? His unlikely winning of the next primary would be the best hope for reelection of Jones.

My State is embarrassing

from the Wikipedia entry on Moore:

In early November, when sexual misconduct allegations against Moore were reported, many Republicans at the national level called for Moore to drop out of the race or withdrew their endorsements of him.[130][131] Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker Paul Ryan said he should step aside.[135][136] The Republican National Committee (RNC) and the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) temporarily withdrew funding from his campaign.[181] Alabama Republicans generally continued to support him, many saying they did not believe the allegations.[182] Initially Trump said Moore should withdraw "if the charges are true", but pointed out that "he denies it."[137] A week before the election Trump strongly endorsed Moore.[138] Following Trump's endorsement, the RNC reinstated their support for him,[181] and McConnell said he would "let the people of Alabama decide" whether to elect Moore.[183] Just four days before the election, Trump appeared at a rally in Pensacola, Florida, near the border of Alabama, and again endorsed Moore.

Jones only won by around 20,000 votes last time, and I have no idea how he's doing so far. That was a special election, though, so who knows what a real one will bring.

This time around, it will be during a presidential race. Trump is at the top of the ticket, with an approval rate of over 60% in Alabama. No Republican is staying home in 2020, unlike December 2017.
