Conservatives spark threat of bloody GOP primaries

Senate Republicans are facing a potential intraparty brawl as they fight to hold on to the chamber next year.

Republicans are defending 22 seats in 2020, mostly in deep-red states, limiting Democrats’ pickup opportunities and increasing the odds of the GOP keeping the Senate.

But nasty primary fights brewing in a handful of key states could threaten to throw a curveball into the Republican strategy, potentially setting the party up for a repeat of previous cycles when conservatives caused headaches by defeating more mainstream GOP candidates, only to lose to Democrats in November.

Three races have jumped into the spotlight as looming problem areas for Republicans: In Alabama and Kansas, where conservatives Roy Moore and Kris Kobach, respectively, are flirting with Senate bids, and in North Carolina, where Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C) is viewed as vulnerable to a primary challenge.

But isn't it curious how the media never wonder if the Republicans are overplaying their hand on something, or getting pulled too far to the right? The media will talk about the potential for a nasty primary fight, but they never talk about how So-and-so's potential Republican candidacy could be divisive or too polarizing for the electorate.

I was out in a county north of Richmond yesterday and the state Senator there should be a no brainer for re-election. Several permanent signs that said Chris Peace
He said YES on Medicaid Expansion
Vote him out!

Or something to that effect. This is burnt red teabagger land. They still have permanent 4x4 and cement BENGHAZI signs.

I guess we still have fair election and we don't have concentration camps. But they pretty much check every other box from crony capitalism to nativism/jingoism.
