Wells-Fargo to Cancer Patient: We've reached out to nonprofits. I call bullshit.

I know this couple. They've been friends of mine for over a decade. Here's a clip from the latest story:

MT. HOLLY, N.C. -- Cindi Davis has stage four cancer. It is spreading, and reality for her and her husband Kirk is setting in daily.

Kirk says, “She’s here, she’s with us. It’s the morning I wake up and she is not there, that’s when I’ll fall apart.”

It is a delicate balancing act, fighting cancer since 2008, and fighting to keep their home out of foreclosure.

These days, they’re losing both fights.

Cindi battled breast cancer two years ago, losing both breasts and several lymph nodes. For almost a year she was in remission. Late last year she received the bad news that not only had the cancer returned, it was in a much more aggressive form. In order for her to stay alive, she has had to resort to a new form of chemo her insurance company won't cover because it's considered experimental. All other options for treatment had failed and there was nothing else left to try. Not only has she had to battle her insurance company, she and Kirk have had to battle Wells Fargo over arrangements on their mortgage.

Wells Fargo, for their part, have refused to return phone calls, lost paperwork, forced Cindi and Kirk to start over endless times. You know the same old story.

Now Cindi is near her last. We are all grieving together. Wells Fargo is making things harder and harder for them as things get progressively more dire for Cindi. The stress is slowly killing Kirk with her.

The late charges are $392.17, there are miscellaneous fees of $154.06, as well as escrow advances of $581.80. The total mortgage now due is now $140,297.47. For a home they bought for $112,000.

Kirk struggles with the bills asking, “So what do I do? Do I make sure I have the $81.00 for the three or four chemo visits every month, or do I put that towards the mortgage?”

Kirk and Cindi don’t know how much time they have left together. The cancer is aggressive, but their attitude is good and their love is strong.

1. Shameless morning kick

I posted this story a few weeks back.

Since then Wells Fargo has only become more entrenched. After the first news story came out, they refused to speak with anyone, neither the media nor the Davises. Only after this third story have they suddenly begun to "work with non-profits" to help save the Davis' residence.

I can't believe that no one DU has anything to say. A woman is dying. A bank who is taking their home is getting away with it.
