Trump's Obamacare Replacement Push Has Been Totally Abandoned

Back in March, President Donald Trump tasked a trio of Republican senators with crafting a “beautiful” new bill that would, once and for all, replace Obamacare with… something else.

At the time, those lawmakers—Sens. Rick Scott (R-FL), John Barrasso (R-WY), and Bill Cassidy (R-LA)—didn’t exactly embrace the effort with open arms. But they didn’t dismiss it out of hand either, declaring they’d work with the White House on a number of health-care initiatives.

Three months later, it’s clear that replacing the Affordable Care Act could not be further from GOP senators’ list of top priorities. In brief interviews with The Daily Beast on Wednesday, the senators that Trump publicly tasked with finally nuking Obamacare were glad to talk about anything on health care—except for the bill that they’d be asked to write.

Scott, for one, said that what he is “focused on is things that are going to drive down costs. Everything I’m going to do on health care is going to be focused on costs.”

election day -- IF they were absolutely forced to come up with something. Don't expect to see it.

Nothing would stand up to scrutiny because there is no way a version they could even try to sell to their no-tax overlords wouldn't look dreadful against Obamacare or even the leanest of the "Medicare for All" variations. They know the first thing people would look for would be the extremely expensive coverage for previous conditions; depending on how they're defined, 19-50% of non-elderly Americans have one or more.

Back during Bill Clinton's presidency, the Repubs presented and advertised a "damage-control" alternative to Hillary's plan; very thin info was on line, but there. That was taken down the same day the Democrats' plan was defeated. I'd gone to look, and the website remained but all content was gutted. No one even talked about it on TV, just...poof! as if never there.

They also presented a fake alternative while Obamacare was being written, but that time they didn't even pretend it was real. There was a website and home page, but nothing on opening the tabs...

So pretty sure they know they can't get away with anything this time. Except steal the election.
