UnTIED Airlines


United Continental Holdings, parent of United Airlines, was having a major network problem Tuesday afternoon.

Its website was down, giving the message, "We are experiencing technical difficulties. This will temporarily affect our ability to serve you online."

FlightAware.com said United was experiencing a systemwide outage of their passenger service network since at least 2:20 p.m. The system is the technology backbone of the airline, used for reservations, ticketing and check-ins. A United spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

"It is expected to have a significant impact on United's airline this evening as flights will be delayed substantially because passengers will be unable to check in for their flights as well as the other operational roles of (the reservation system)," said the advisory from FlightAware.com. .................(more)

Note to self: Must order the $12 24h Gogo flight pass to stay on top of DU at 38,000 feet (My flight is Internet-enabled!)

That's pretty brutal for any airline to experience that kind of outtage. Disgruntled former emplooyee, perhaps?
