The Uranus Effect

Last edited Fri Jun 21, 2019, 05:29 PM - Edit history (1)

I have read and watched all the sturm and drang about impeachment. I believe we have to act on that. However, there is a lot of crap going on that we cannot begin to know.

I still trust Pelosi. She has never proven to be scared of doing her duty nor scared of
Trump. She has a poker hand and she has no tells. No matter what her cards are, she is a master of bluffing. Pelosi also also knows how to push Trump’s buttons.

She is not acting like I think a lot of us and a lot of other people think she should. It seems out of character.

I call it the Uranus Effect. Scientists knew Neptune existed before they ever could lay eyes on it. When Uranus reached a certain part of its orbit, it “wiggled.” These movements could not be explained unless there was another object nearby whose gravitational pull moved it.

I think her actions are in line with what she knows about a lot of things from info she is picking up to the workings of Congress. I believe there will be only one chance at impeachment that does not get hopelessly bogged down.

She knows she cannot wait for a perfect case. There is no such thing. She does know what may be needed and when. Could she be making a mistake? Yep. Is there a better person to lead this effort? I don’t think so.

Fingers crossed that I am right.

She has access to a lot of information that we don’t. For all any of us know there is a currently classified report that nails Twitler’s butt to a tree and she is fighting to have it released.

We really don't have a clue what is actually going on. We're like mushrooms, we get kept in the dark and fed sh*t. I don't care how much time you spend, and I spent way too much just ask my long suffering wife, trying to understand what the f*ck is going on, you still don't have much information.

Here's what I'm sure of:

1. Pelosi loathes Donnie O. I mean she absolutely finds him repulsive and dangerous.
2. She's knows she's at the end of her time in government and would like to go out remembered in a positive way
3. She's not just a career politician, her parents raised her to serve in government. She knows what pressure to bring to bear, who to put that pressure on, and just how much is appropriate
4. She is one smart cookie

Here's what I think:

The instance the opportunity arised to nail this sucker she is going to be going for the jugular provided that doing so doesn't end up harming the country more than Donnie O already has.

Keep in mind, there are about 220,000,000 people of adult age in the US. If 30 to 40% of them are still supporting the orange disaster that means there are between 66,000,000 88,000,000 "adults" that can be riled up and to a dangerous pitch if they perceive the take down of Drumpf as a partisan act.

This has got to be done properly or we could find ourselves in a state of open rebellion, which would play right into Donnie's hands. I for one am very grateful that the actual adults are handling this situation.

We are living in terribly precarious times.

would be risky and difficult to explain to the public and it's tricky because she - perhaps more than any other politician - is responsible for keeping the government running day-by-day. A sure sign our Congress has become far too complex and the executive branch massively corrupted.

I wish she could hold a frequent, scheduled official news conference to review what is being done in Congress in simple terms. Such a broadcast could in effect replace the White House news conferences which are a farce.

For starters, the message would not be sent that Trump (or god forbid whatever WORSE comes next from the GOP sludge) can live beyond the law.

The office of the President is stained beyond cleaning by Trump to begin with, but failing to bring impeachment HEARINGS - not necessarily ARTICLES OF - sends the message to the Trump fans and low information voters that two things are "true":

1) Trump is exonerated of wrong doing...no matter what sentient beings KNOW and certainly not what people who have bothered to READ the Mueller Report in full. The drone class of mouth-breathing, knuckle-dragging, Trump-loving rubes will forever BELIEVE that Trump was 100% innocent. It will be an unshakable tenet of their existence forever.

2) Trump will assume (correctly) that Democratic leadership is just as craven and power hungry as he is...right or wrong, this assumption will be used to tar and feather the party in the run up to 2020 (accusations of 'partisan witch hunt' and 'refusing to accept my victory' will become the coin of the realm so to speak).

Failure to START impeachment inquiry is a dereliction of duty to the Constitution and to the people of the United States, whose government has been usurped and whose self-rule is being stolen.

The case against Trump and his actions is 100X stronger than the charges the GOP brought up on Clinton, yet because of the inaction for the last 6 months, the public BELIEVES that the case against Trump is fabricated and weak or nonexistent. If for no other reason than to set the record straight and FORCE the GOP senate to defend the Tangerine Menace loudly and publicly in an election year, impeachment inquiry MUST be brought and should be brought ASAP.

Playing coy and politics and trying to do the calculus of how this MIGHT effect the 2020 results is fool's gold and plays as weakness, not strength and ultimately tars and feathers the Democratic Party as being the same - ineffectual, cowardly and weak in the face of doing what MUST be done.

Call for impeachment inquiry to begin or resign and get a job doing stock analysis for risk averse hedge funds...

"Trump will assume (correctly) that Democratic leadership is just as craven and power hungry as he is"
There is also an assumption that not only the buffoon but his followers will take, which is that the Democratic party is weak.

"Failure to START impeachment inquiry is a dereliction of duty to the Constitution and to the people of the United States"
This is a big one, IMHO, it leaves the door open for more corruption from the administration, if they are not going to punish me, then I can do whatever I want.

"Playing coy and politics and trying to do the calculus of how this MIGHT effect the 2020 results is fool's gold and plays as weakness, not strength and ultimately tars and feathers the Democratic Party as being the same - ineffectual, cowardly and weak in the face of doing what MUST be done."
I believe not doing anything will hurt more than doing, the Democratic party needs to show strength and what better argument for a campaign that letting people know that despite the risks, it was more important to preserve the rule of law, and to find out the truth about criminal and corrupt behaviour, and punishing those who infringed on it.

Very well put.

the political consequences and I don't believe Pelosi is either.

My opinion is based on the belief that none of what you think will happen, will actually occur. I do think we should continue to investigate and shine a light on what he's done, but impeachment will likely not do anything. He always finds a way to turn things his way and this would be no different.

Maybe you're an optimist and I'm just a pessimist. I would like to think you're right about the results, but I just don't.

Republicans will pounce on and exploit, or blow off any weakness that we display with no conscience whatsoever. Does this mean we should back off impeachment? Certainly not, but we do need to put our very best game on the table right now. If that game results in impeachment, so be it. If it doesn’t, and we choose to attempt to put the idiot in jail after the election, best we pray that we win in 2020 or we will have nobody to blame but ourselves.

I really don’t know what the answer is. All I know is that America is in a very serious situation and we better have a damn good, solid plan. This is not the time for weakness. Decisions can be difficult but the other side willing to fight very hard to 1) retain control, and 2) elect the fool again.

That's because, at the time Uranus was discovered, Neptune was still unknown. The furthest classical planet away from the Sun was Saturn, and it was the furthest one that was visible by the naked eye. Uranus was discovered in the 1780s, and Neptune in the 1840s. Please get your facts and planetary history straight!!

Uranus was discovered by telescope which was then a rudimentary but effective instrument. It was the planet whose path moved slightly.
You say that when Uranus was discovered Neptune was unknown. That’s part of my point. It could not be seen yet, but its gravitational pull affected Uranus.

you will see that she does not believe in impeachment, generally speaking. Ever. She regards it as divisive. All that matters are elections.

That's why the crooks that caused the Great Recession didn't have any accountability. That's why the lies that the Bush administration told the public & Congress will be repeated...they weren't held accountable for that. To do so would have interfered with the primary focus: elections and legislation.

She's probably not the only one who feels that way. But she does feel that way. That would be fine, in one sense, if the other side believed that, too. But they don't. If the situation were flipped, and the Republicans were in charge, they'd have filed impeachment papers by now.

24. Impeachment is not the Goal
Sat Jun 22, 2019, 08:05 AM
Jun 2019

The goal, the result we want is removal from office, including all of Trump's family and toadies.

Impeachment is a process, but it must serve the actual goal of removal from office.

To use a medical analogy, there's a gigantic cancer affecting the entire body politic. Removing one tumor won't cure the patient. And scarily, I'm not sure if now Trump is a bigger tumor than McConnell or Barr.
