(14,374 posts)All have policy. All have ability. But my primary choice will be heavily based on the decency and respect they displayed while campaigning. We are up against a level of corruption and slime never before seen in our nation. I want the opposite of that!

(3,678 posts)The "wrong" policy could open up the door for a future right winger that's even worse than Trump.

(52,468 posts)I would have phrased the question as "beat tRump" but I didn't want to suggest physically beating him. Then I paused and thought that I wish someone would physically beat him up (until now I was a non-violent pacifist too...look what he has done to people like me!).

(2,199 posts)For me though, going head to head with him, rolling in the mud with him, will not beat him.
It's going to take substance and integrity. The opposite of what he is.

(22,940 posts)I would think in "normal" times policy would be much more important. But these are not normal times. Getting trump out is important to me.
Strange days indeed -- most peculiar, mama

(12,344 posts)People voted for Trump for a reason. Real reasons not a made up guess of what Democrats think someone else ought to do. The real reasons led them to be dissatisfied with political leaders of both parties. They seem no more satisfied today. Whoever speaks best to the reasons for the dussatisfaction, gets my vote.

(12,344 posts)Second of all, the fact that Trump even got more than 5% of the Republican vote let alone 46% of the entire country speaks to a much deeper and more serious problem than Trump himself. As of now, only two candidates seem aware of this, so one of them will get my vote, unless someone else figures it out.

(160,724 posts)Trump did not "win" via MAGAts alone

(12,344 posts)People just don't vote in large numbers for someone like Trump unless they think there is something seriously wrong with the country and their voice is not being heard. And it is not something unique to America like the FBI. The same problem is occurring in many countries around the world.
Only 2 out of 24 candidates seem to get it. Most DUers don't seem to get it. I hope at least the Democratic base understands what is bothering the rest of the country.

(160,724 posts)you're talking about less than half.....and FUCK those racist, sexist assholes
there are more than two candidates who GET IT....we need to concentrate on the people who failed to vote, not those voted for a sick fascist reality TV show con man to be PRESIDENT
marylandblue
(12,344 posts)then again, if you want to get it, you have to see other people as fully formed persons in their own right, with hopes, dreams and flaws, not mere "racist, sexist assholes." And even if they were racist sexist assholes, 46% of the electorate is PAINFULLY close to a majority for someone as manifestly unfit for office as Donald Trump. So even if Trump loses next time, but the underlying problems are not addressed, the path is cleared for a smarter more competent Trump to win a future election.
If I were so inclined and sufficiently skilled I know exactly how I would do it. That scares the crap out of me, because if I can see it, so can a lot of other people who are actually inclined to do it.

(16,224 posts)to know what your opinion is that so many people voted for him and which two candidates understand it. Seriously, Im interested in your thoughts because it bugs me that so many approve of this asshole.

(16,224 posts)McConnell is blocking all efforts to secure this election. So we must turn out in huge numbers to overcome any possible GOP/Russian shenanigans. We did it in 2018, we can do it in 2020.

(15,008 posts)There is no objective way to determine that, so everyone just thinks themselves into believing their guy is the most electable.
On the other hand, you can just write down what policy positions are important to you, and compare each candidate against that list.
