Independence Day is a celebration of our victory for freedom and the founding of our Republic.

It's a day for kids on trikes and bikes, decorated in streamers and pinwheels. A day for floats and local service organizations.

Usually the only real time military is the opening color guard.

This is a day of peace and celebration, not a Soviet era May Day show of force.

Make sure those tanks have no ammunition if they appear. We may get Kent State redux!

No trust in my government, period!

Intelligent, well-informed, humane. Different in every way from Trump, in other words.

Dukakis was just trying to show solidarity with our troops, which every candidate does, and sadly the tank photo backfired.

Of course that backfire had a lot of help from GOP operatives like -- dang, who was that guy who died of brain cancer and begged forgiveness for his crimes just before the end? He had said of Dukakis running for potus, "I'm going to peel the bark off that little guy," and proceeded to do just that.
