Trump: "The cost will be very little. We own the tanks and all. Fireworks are donated. Nice!"

Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump

The cost of our great Salute to America tomorrow will be very little compared to what it is worth. We own the planes, we have the pilots, the airport is right next door (Andrews), all we need is the fuel. We own the tanks and all. Fireworks are donated by two of the greats. Nice!

He's lying, per usual.

https://www.cnn.com/2019/07/03/politics/national-park-service-funds-july-4/index.html

"The National Park Service will redirect nearly $2.5 million to help cover costs related to President Donald Trump's July 4 extravaganza in Washington, DC, money that is usually "primarily intended to improve parks across the country," The Washington Post reported Tuesday.
The Post said the use of the funds was confirmed by two unnamed individuals familiar with the agreement. According to the paper, the redirected funds are "typically used to enhance the visitor experience either on the (National) Mall or at smaller parks across the country with projects ranging from road and bridge repair to habitat restoration."

......

His tweet, however, doesn't mention the additional costs for the security, personnel and infrastructure required to put on the event, as well as the expenses that are necessary to protect the President.
According to the Post, Brendan Fischer, the federal reform director for the Campaign Legal Center, said the President's speech could cause issues related to the use of the NPS funds as "federal appropriations law prohibits using public money for political purposes."

If Trump "refers to some of the 2020 presidential hopefuls, or polling related to the race, Trump's reelection campaign may be required to reimburse the U.S. Treasury," the paper said. "....(more)

That's just for the armored vehicles. I'll leave it to someone else to chime in with the operating costs of the aircraft involved.

Donald Trump to get tanks for his July 4 celebration in Washington

Tom Vanden Brook, USA TODAY Published 5:28 p.m. ET July 1, 2019 | Updated 7:28 a.m. ET July 2, 2019

WASHINGTON – The Pentagon has approved President Donald Trump's request for a display of tanks in conjunction with his "Salute to America" celebration on the National Mall here on the Fourth of July, the president said Monday.

Trump confirmed that the tanks will be parked near the National Mall for the July 4 celebration, the president said during remarks in the Oval Office. ... "We're gonna have some tanks stationed outside," Trump said. "You know we're making a lot of new tanks right now."

The tanks would be stationary, in a "static display," according to the aide who was not authorized to speak publicly about the plans. It is unclear how many tanks, what type or where they would come from. However, the Army has tanks at Ft. Stewart, Ga.

The Pentagon approved the display, the aide said. The Army declined to comment, referring questions to the Defense Secretary's office and the White House. White House aides, the Defense Department and the Army declined to comment.

A preliminary estimate of the cost for transporting and displaying the tanks is about $870,000, the aide said.

Fireworks donated?

What about security? Police?
Porta potties?
Stages set up?
IT/electrical for lights and mics?
Trash cleanup?
Restoration of the grass?

Does he think only fireworks cost money?

My hope is that few show up for this fiasco, except for some protestors with their inflatable Trump Baby.

I wish the media wouldn't cover it, either, but I suppose that's too much to ask.

$92 Million fucking dollars that could be used to help children at the border, veterans, the sick, homeless, children, the elderly, infrastructure - the list goes on.

In other words, there are a thousand more worthy causes than spending it on feeding this grotesque pile of useless, needy orange blubber's bottomless ego.
