'Worst ever!': Washington covered in smoke from Trump's failed fireworks display

If Washingtonians were atop a building, far above the city, or watching at home on television, the city-wide fireworks display was easily seen. However, for those sitting on the National Mall, the massive display created so much smoke that half of the show was obscured.

Viewers in the city and visiting from around the country had hoped for the world’s biggest fireworks display, as promised by President Donald Trump.

The man who typically does the display was joined by Grucci Fireworks, who seemed to not be prepared to handle the display for the city.

With a tough day of weather, low-hanging clouds made for a smaller sky-ceiling where the display could appear in the skies.

Understandably, there were a lot of complaints. Had the fireworks been the normal size, viewers wondered if they would have been better if the president hadn’t doubled the display.

Considering the chemicals and heavy metals that give fireworks their colour, you would NOT want to breathe in the smoke!

ER visits for breathing difficulties coming up?

Components in Fireworks

Aluminum - Aluminum is used to produce silver and white flames and sparks. It is a common component of sparklers.

Antimony - Antimony is used to create firework glitter effects.

Barium - Barium is used to create green colors in fireworks, and it can also help stabilize other volatile elements.

Calcium - Calcium is used to deepen firework colors. Calcium salts produce orange fireworks.

Carbon - Carbon is one of the main components of black powder, which is used as a propellant in fireworks. Carbon provides the fuel for a firework. Common forms include carbon black, sugar, or starch.

Chlorine - Chlorine is an important component of many oxidizers in fireworks. Several of the metal salts that produce colors contain chlorine.

Copper - Copper compounds produce blue colors in fireworks.

Iron - Iron is used to produce sparks. The heat of the metal determines the color of the sparks.

Lithium - Lithium is a metal that is used to impart a red color to fireworks. Lithium carbonate, in particular, is a common colorant.

Magnesium - Magnesium burns a very bright white, so it is used to add white sparks or improve the overall brilliance of a firework.

Oxygen - Fireworks include oxidizers, which are substances that produce oxygen in order for burning to occur. The oxidizers are usually nitrates, chlorates, or perchlorates. Sometimes the same substance is used to provide oxygen and color.

Phosphorus - Phosphorus burns spontaneously in air and is also responsible for some glow-in-the-dark effects. It may be a component of a firework's fuel.

Potassium - Potassium helps to oxidize firework mixtures. Potassium nitrate, potassium chlorate, and potassium perchlorate are all important oxidizers.

Sodium - Sodium imparts a gold or yellow color to fireworks, however, the color may be so bright that it masks less intense colors.

Sulfur - Sulfur is a component of black powder. It is found in a firework's propellant/fuel.

Strontium - Strontium salts impart a red color to fireworks. Strontium compounds are also important for stabilizing fireworks mixtures.

Titanium - Titanium metal can be burned as powder or flakes to produce silver sparks.

Zinc - Zinc is used to create smoke effects for fireworks and other pyrotechnic devices.

Between the rain and storms, his confusing speech, the wife looking like she won a wet t-shirt contest, and now the heavy smoke blocking his fireworks; I bet the twitter storm tomorrow may be classic!

hardly show up during the second half. I thought it was fog but it must have been smoke from too many large fireworks.

11. Firework smoke a danger to those with breathing problems

... Firework smoke contains fine particles and gases, which can be hard on the lungs. Particularly if stagnant air traps the smoke near the ground.

In fact, a 2017 fireworks display in Des Moines caused air quality to fall below safety standards set by the Environmental Protection Agency.

A DNR spokesman says those unable to avoid areas of dense smoke should limit outdoor activity and contact their health care provider if they experience difficulty breathing.

If you fireworks are a must for your holiday...the best advice is to make sure that the elderly, young children and those with respiratory problems stay up-wind of the display ...

Of this story. tRump is incapable of that. He only had his “vision” of how things would go for the event. He never factored in things beyond his control like weather. Unfortunately for him, his minions who carry out his vision didn’t think it through either. And they know him well enough to know it is impossible to try to talk sense to him. So they gambled and lost. I’d have loved to know what was bouncing around in his noggin when it apparently was not going to be the perfection he proposed. Of course, by now with his revisionist version of things, it went swimmingly. Award winning. Simply stunning. Who ya gonna believe? Me or your lying eyes?

I am wondering how they will explain the historical errors and gaffes in that speech. Expect more mocking and fun as their feeble attempts to fix things just make it worse.
