I hope it's nothing serious. There have been three episodes. She says she was dehydrated. now they let her sit down at these things, thank goodness

(32,674 posts)I was shaking just as bad if not more. Other than that, no pain. Went to ER and they did a ton of test. All they could come up with was "unknown virus". Never happened again.

(32,762 posts)Hard or doing a lot of upper body activity. Its frustrating, other than that it does not stop me. Her shaking could be a side effect from a prescribed drug, genetics, insomnia, arthritic changes in her neck....any number of reasons that go with aging but are not really serious

(17,303 posts)He ruled out Parkinson's since the shaking subsides when Merkel is in motion. It's only noticeable when she stands still. He said his best guess is a very rare (1 in a million) condition called "ortho-?????" (sorry, I can remember the term). The news anchor asked Gupta how it could be treated or cured. He said there's no cure. Treatment would be prescribing a muscle relaxant to combat the shaking, which begins in the legs and works its way up, he said.

(9,888 posts)about this. It's really not great to have a major world leader with an obvious problem not acknowledging there's something wrong. It's more than just her business when she's in that position. She is obviously trying very hard to suppress her movement, which has to be big time stressful. Plus, it doesn't enhance her effectiveness to have everybody looking at her trying to figure out what's wrong with her. Plenty of movement issues can have no effect on thinking, which is what she's paid to do. She needs to get it out there so she can move on.

I don't know what her workday schedule is like, I could imagine that she is extremely busy. I certainly hope that she's eating alright, getting enough sleep and taking care of herself.

(32,634 posts)Once my friend changed her diet, it all went away. Hypoglycemia happens with low blood sugar, and symptoms can be relieved when you eat frequent small meals or snacks throughout the day rather than one or two large meals.
Prime Minister Merkel probably has an extremely busy schedule and she doesn't take enough breaks during the day. If she can just have a quick snack and glass of water, also sit down more, maybe that's all she needs. I hope that's the case.
