NY.T. Friday Briefing on Epstein & Census Question w/ CNN news on ICE raids

New York Times briefing: Trump retreats on census question
President Trump said on Thursday that he was abandoning his push to ask about citizenship status in next year’s census. He has ordered officials to compile the data from other federal records instead.

“We are not backing down,” Mr. Trump said, but his executive order appeared merely to reiterate plans that the Commerce Department announced last year.

Why it matters: A citizenship question could have made immigrants afraid to participate in the census. Government experts predicted that about 6.5 million people might have gone uncounted as a result. That would have skewed representation when congressional districts are allocated in 2021, and affected federal funding.

The background: The lineage of citizenship questions in America highlights more than a century of partisan fights over the country’s racial makeup.

In typical GOP hypocrisy, Epstein, who apparently has enough dirt on Trump and other high ranking Republicans to manipulate them, has more rights than legal refugees, immigrants and work-Visa holders, already in the USA.

How Epstein dodged sex offender registries
Federal law requires all 50 states to implement sex offender registries. But the requirements vary considerably from state to state.

Jeffrey Epstein, the New York financier who faces federal sex-trafficking charges, registered in Florida, where he pleaded guilty to two state felony charges in 2008. But he avoided check-ins with the authorities in New York by changing his official residence to the Virgin Islands. And in

New Mexico, where he had a palatial home, he could skip inclusion in the state registry entirely.

How realistic are Trump's mass deportation threats?

(CNN)Immigration and Customs Enforcement is scheduled to move forward with an operation targeting migrant families with court-ordered removals that had previously been called off by President Donald Trump, according to a US official.

ICE, an agency within the Department of Homeland Security, is charged, in part, with deporting undocumented immigrants. A senior immigration official told CNN that the details of the ICE operation, currently slated to start on Sunday, will be largely the same as the one postponed last month.
ICE to begin nationwide immigration raids Sunday

The New York Times first reported on the upcoming raids, saying they are expected to take place in at least 10 cities. The raids will occur "over multiple days" and will include "collateral" deportations in which "authorities might detain immigrants who happened to be on the scene, even though they were not targets of the raids."
