Census battle not over: Ex-AG Holder warns of disinformation, undercount
PHILADELPHIA -- The political battle over the 2020 U.S. Census is about power in America and is far from over, former Attorney General Eric Holder warned Thursday at the nation's largest annual conference of progressive activists.
"The political direction of this country is what is at stake," said Holder.
The former AG under President Obama has taken on the new task of battling Republicans over gerrymandering of congressional and legislative district boundaries, and seeking to thwart any attempt in particular the under-count Hispanic Americans.
President Donald Trump, in a Rose Garden appearance Thursday, said he would not pursue attempts to put a citizenship question on the Census, but said the Commerce Department would pump other federal departments for information on citizenship.
"There's going to be disinformation spread, not just by the Russians but domestically," Holder warned. "We've got to be prepared for disinformation and how to counter it."
