I can promise you that in a lot of the deeply rightwing evangelical churches, young girls are being forced to have older men. I have seen several cases in my bible-belt region where I have been left to wonder whether a young woman is the older man's who she is with daughter or wife.

the way I have seen forcing very young girls onto older men is a way of shutting them down - shutting them out of education, and forcing them into the reponsibilites of raising a family before they have a sense of themselves and the world. By them time they are women in their 30s, the cost of forging a new life for themselves is (usually) prohibitive.

looked trapped. Imagine, if a girl has a baby at 14 or 15 and has no access to further her education, for all intents and purposes, she is totally reliant on her church for the rest of her life and could be somewhat unlikely to protect her own daughters. One reason why the right hates social media and technology so much is they allow women that we're girl brides to get a glimpse of a larger world than what they have.

Say what you want about the popular vote in November 2016 but he still made it through a field of more than a dozen in a major party primary and through a general election and kept it close enough that the electoral college delivered the victory. All the things he did on the campaign trail -- advocating violence, mocking the disabled, open bigotry, bragging about sexual assault -- none of it dented him bad enough to prevent victory.

He's grown worse since empowered with the office and still we don't see the backlash in numbers to convince me the U.S. cares. Even those overseas who believe there are still numbers of good people in America are still disappointed at the approbation, the lack of resounding disgust and subsequent action.

That even a sizable plurality of citizens can convince themselves to tolerate such is humiliating. It certainly deflates any notion of American exceptionalism.
