MANATEE
A former Manatee County Sheriffs Office corrections deputy has been convicted of felony battery and sentenced to 120 days in jail after he assaulted an inmate at the Manatee County Jail.
According to a release from State Attorney Ed Brodskys Office, Paul Wagner, 34, was escorting an inmate through the jail on June 23, 2017, when a verbal altercation over a contraband search occurred. The sheriffs office released video of the incident that depicts Wagner pinning the inmate against the wall before throwing him to the ground.
An internal affairs investigation said Wagners use of force broke the inmates nose and teeth. He was fired after the agency completed its 11-day investigation.
Wagner, who was a seven-year veteran of the sheriffs office, entered a plea agreement about two weeks ago, the state attorneys office said. The deal also requires that Wagner spend 30 days in the work offender program and anger management classes as a condition of two years of probation.

Manatee County Sheriffs Office
Jun 2017. Manatee Fl: The Manatee County Sheriffs Office reported that, Paul Wagner, 32, was fired for unlawful conduct and use of excessive force. Paul is a seven-year veteran and is appealing his termination.
Apparently, he does not think he used excessive force and wants his job back. He will have a hearing in front of the Career Service Board on July 27.
The 11-day investigation began on June 26. A capias request recommending a charge of felony battery was sent to the State Attorneys Office. A prosecutor will review the case and then decide if he should be formally charged.
We cant help but think that former deputy Paul Wagner should be fired just for being stupid enough for beating down a prisoner in front of the surveillance camera.

MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. A former Manatee County correction deputy who was fired in 2017 for excessive force has been convicted of battery and sentenced to 120 days in jail.
An investigation into Paul Wagner, 32, began on June 26, 2017 after an excessive force complaint was filed against him. The altercation resulted in the inmate suffering broken teeth and a broken nose, according to the sheriff's office.
Three deputies were conducting a "shakedown" search of the dorm while the inmates were in the Exercise Yard, the sheriff's office says. During the shakedown a cache of oranges, which are considered contraband, were confiscated from inmate Andrew Pryces bin.
When the inmates were brought back into the dorm, the inmate discovered that his oranges were missing and he became distraught and confrontational with one of the deputies.

(11,949 posts)I hope his probation officer does an unannounced search. And when they find him with a firearm, which you know they will, I hope he is convicted as a felon possessing a firearm.
