South Dakota town unveils Barack Obama statue

https://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/452952-south-dakota-town-unveils-statue-honoring-barack-obama

Rapid City, S.D., unveiled a life-size statue of former President Obama on Saturday afternoon.

The bronze statue is the newest addition to the town's City of Presidents, which places life-size statues of past U.S. presidents along the streets and sidewalks of Rapid City.

The statue, which was constructed by local artist James Van Nuys, took roughly two years to complete.

Footage shared online by the town’s department of tourism shows the statue being unveiled at a ceremony on Saturday. The statue shows a smiling Obama waving with one hand while holding hands with his youngest daughter, Sasha.

I'm right-handed. If I'm holding the hand of one of my young nieces, nephews, or cousins, I would never use my right hand. President Obama is left-handed. He's shown holding Sasha's hand with his left. Am I over-thinking this, or wouldn't anyone tend to keep his or her dominant hand free?

Nevertheless, thanks a lot for posting this, Dennis. A day-brightener for a (so far) dreary, gloomy-looking Sunday morning.

I'm a lefty. I use my right hand for some tasks more often than my left, but, yeah, my left hand for most things like writing, lifting packages, etc. Hand-holding? I think it depends on which side my wife is on when we're walking.

My concern is whether this fine South Dakota town will skip Trump in their hall of presidents or cast him, appropriately, sitting on his golden throne tweeting on his phone.

We learn early in life that some things will never work with our left hands, like a ten key calculator/keyboard.

through George W. Bush. Extremely interesting.

Besides Barack Obama, all the statutes are single individuals except John F. Kennedy and Abraham Lincoln.

when you aren’t really tearing up?

I am feeling proud of Americans - same as I did when we elected him, twice - and I am tearing up.
