If Trump gets away with his racist remarks

against members of congress with impunity, we are finished.

If this does not enrage our leadership enough to launch an all out do or die effort to remove this cancer of a man from office, our party has lost it's morality, it's decency, it's soul.

Trump's skill is controlling the narrative, impeachment hearings will take away that skill, we will control the narrative. I listened to one of the authors of one of his books who knows Trump a lot better than you or I and this author said that impeachment hearings will devastate Trump. One can imagine a daily dose of exposing the Trump crime family's crimes, the effect that would have on a Narcissist.

Trump's base is what it is, it is not going to grow, if anything impeachment will shrink it.

Finally, if there are grounds for impeachment it is not a choice, it is an obligation. In the words of Justin Amash, "the problem isn't that we impeach too often, the problem is that we do not impeach enough which gives the president the sense that he is above the law."

There are no good reasons to not impeach Trump, it is the duty of the House to open impeachment now.

Impeachment hearings would not last until the elections. The GOP controlled Senate has already pledged to quickly quash ANY attempt at impeachment. And a failed attempt at impeachment would allow Trump to play victim, thus increasing the voter base for himself and GOP Senators.

We would ALL love to impeach him - immediately.

And that would be so satisfying - except Trump would still be in office.

AND he could use it against us very effectively in his reelection campaign.

So do we hold back and win the election or claim the moral victory of impeachment but give Trump four more years?

I'd rather get his ass out of there next year than have a feel-good proceeding that backfires against us later.

Not like:

The Democrats did everything they could to overturn your votes. They even tried to impeach me! They wasted all your taxpayer dollars going after me and didn't do anything else! They did nothing but go after me! But they couldn't do it! Because I am super awesome and have been persecuted like Jesus on a cross blah blah blah.

And the voters will know that it's true, because that will be what they saw on the news every day - in impeachment hearings today, so and so will testify about this boring detail, etc. When instead they need to hear - every day - what the Democrat House is trying to do to make everybody's lives better, even if they get knocked down in the Senate.

Quite frankly Congress as a whole doesnt care. They may carry individually and I believe many probably do but party is now more important than branch. It's more important than the constitution or even the oath of office. What the democrats want, what the republicans want. That is more important and it's the job of Pelosi and McConnell to ensure it stays that way.

Am I ruffling feathers with that? Yeah probably but it is demonstrably true. If congress actually cared about the constitution and their responsibility to hold the executive branch to account then we would have already had impeachment proceedings. There is more than enough evidence to prove he is unfit. The fact we dont is political, its party. We are burning the country and the constitution for what? To hopefully hold the house? To hopefully win back the presidency? The DOJ is going to allow Russia to fuck our election next year under orders. We hold the house, yeah great. They have zero authority over cabinet positions and judicial appointments. They constantly have to run in order to keep their seats. We cant pass legislation so all we can do is block legislation and engage in these investigations that have amounted to nothing.

And dont give me this 7th dimensional chess, or GO or any other cute analogy to some great scheme. Dont tap the side of your nose. There is no great plan. It's a hope that something will convince the Republicans but again party... just like we haven't moved because party.

This country is screwed.

While what trump said was disgusting, he has committed far worse behaviors that should have already been enough to have him removed (or at least impeached). Yet, nothing; and it's my belief that's how it will continue.
